Postmaster urges early mailing for holiday season
Postmaster Lowell Hanson asks the public to mail early as about 9 billion pieces of holiday mail were handled last year. Deadlines include Dec 1 for 5 pound or less gifts to armed forces abroad, Dec 11 for air mail gifts, Dec 4 and Dec 10 for distant state gifts and greeting cards, and Dec 19 for domestic air mail. Osceola Post Office will stay open until 5 PM on Dec 9 and Dec 16.

If interest grows a Polk County Old Times Day soap box derby is planned for June 1 with two age group contests and prizes.
