First Reading Week Observance Termed Successful By Teachers
National Reading Week was observed in Osceola schools led by Mrs. John Inness and Mrs. Peter Chapman. Students exchanged books for certificates to buy new books. over 200 books were exchanged and 90 more were sold. A prize drawing awarded six students with new books.

Upper Big Blue NRD Adopts Runoff Control Rules
The Upper Big Blue NRD approved rules to curb irrigation runoff from groundwater as required by SB 577 and set July 1 1976 effective date. Violators may face cease and desist orders or district court if noncompliant. The board added 15000 to cost share programs and approved a 1976 tree planting service with pricing for trees planting and spraying. The board also considers pursuing out of basin water rights applications.

GOP Women Meet At Viking Center in Stroms burg
Polk County Republican Women gathered Tuesday November 11 at the Viking Center Stroms burg for an all hostess luncheon. Mrs Paul Monson led the meeting in Mrs J L Hurd absence. Reuben Hanquist gave invocation and paid tribute with two poems for Lois Strong. Officers elected: Hanquist president Hurd vice president Sandell treasurer Monson chaplain. Slides were shown by Monson and Allegra Johnson to 23 attendees.
