The Goldenrod Confference coaches edged the Red Heads in Osceola gym by 35 to 33. New lineups wore down an early girls lead in the second half as both teams kept the action light hearted with good humor and crowd laughs.
Next Monday marks a critical point as many taxpayers will become delinquent if not paid. Personal taxes for the month are due, with December targets around $100 600 and projected total near $115 000 for Sagardeau. A gun spinning baton twirling program by Bill Sears will be staged at the Osceola Auditorium on a Wednesday in December. Sears, known for judging teaching and performing across many states and three foreign countries, combines rapid motion with brief commentary to entertain and educate audiences from children to adults.
Election of community committeemen and delegates to the county convention will take place in Polk County in early December. Polling sites include Hackberry-Fairview School, Clear Creek-Ball School, Platte-Fairview Hall on December 1, Stromsburg-City High, Island-District 55 on December 2, and Canada MWA Hall plus other venues on December 3.

Thirty eight men worked one day last week to reap 96 acres of corn, gathering about 4000 bushels for Frank Bolton who has been bedridden with a back injury for a month. Eleven men provided mechanical corn pickers and many others assisted with dinners prepared by four women.

Ruth Walgreen Berkland born July 13 1922 in Osceola Nebraska died November 18 1947 in Wahoo Nebraska at age 26. Survived by husband Oscar Berkland of Wahoo her mother Martha Walgreen of Osceola three brothers Raymond Richard and Robert all at home three sisters Ruby Rosalie and Ramona at home and many relatives. Funeral services held November 21 at Wahoo Funeral Home and St Pauls Lutheran Church Osceola with Rev J Gdor Larson and Rev Maurice Swengon officiating Pallbearers listed and burial in Osceola cemetery.
District 18 reports visitors in Lone Star area with Mrs. Lena Hecker hosting Birth Day Club. Guests include Mr and Mrs Edward Lisko and Phil Micek visiting Carl Bends family, Mary Bends from California, Frank Zelasmy from near Monroe, Leo Lassek home, Maxine Eschler visiting Carl Benda, and Mollie Ballore from Idaho visiting Orville Enyeart family.
Mrs Johnson entertained a group including Mrs Carbeton Anderson Mrs Deloss Buchholz and Mrs Raymond Brantmz at a party held last Wednesday at her Stroms home. Other guests attended the social gathering in a cordial neighborhood setting.
Mr and Mrs Herman Augustin of Shelby and Frank Schott of Silver Creek traveled to Spokane Washington last Friday morning and arrived Wednesday night Mrs G R Sundberg joined the return journey and stayed with her parents Mr and Mrs E C Schott for an indefinite period.
Miss Ethelyn Anderson departs Monday for Chickasha Oklahoma to take up teaching duties after being called home by the death of her father F T Anderson in Stromsburg last week. She will remain in Stromsburg in the house bought last year after moving from a farm south of Osceola.
Robert H. McBeth arrived in Osceola last Tuesday and has spent the week spinning fish yarns with local friends. He has lived with his son Neal and family in Wisconsin for several months and now heads to California for the winter to visit Arden and another son in Oregon. Evidently fish won’t bite in Wisconsin in winter.
Mrs Chas Hennings now of Saskatchewan Canada asks for materials from the extension office used two years ago to aid Christmas parties and recreation contests. She notes a community chair of 20 and hopes to attend a three day recreation training in Columbus December 3 4 5 to plan programs for all ages. Several Polk County residents are expected to attend.
The notice lists an annual Dairy Breeders Association meeting at Scotts Hall Stromb burg December 10 with a program including Dr Atford on Bangs disease and an oyster feed. It also promotes a 4 H County Achievement party at Osceola High School Gym on December 8 with recognition and pictures. Two January meetings are planned by Jan 27 on landscaping and January 12 on farm and home account books with TUS service offered.

Vacancies exist in Minneapolis Minnesota and Omaha Nebraska with salaries 4170 to 7081 dollars. No written test. evaluation based on experience.
Survivors of servicemen are cautioned about a fraud linked to a group calling itself Claims Community Military Personnel Japan. The Better Business Bureau finds no official sanction and warns no government agency sponsors such claims efforts. Report any literature to the local Legion.
J Carder Throckmorter and Margaret Crosby from the county agent's Osceola office attended the annual Extension conference at Lincoln. The meeting lasted most of last week as new ideas and methods were discussed.
A new Baby Beef project club organized at Alan Deeter’s home on Thursday night November 20 with Deeter as leader and Tom Brigham as assistant. Officers elected include Pres Kenneth Hopwood Vice Pres Wayne Augustin Secy Bob Hopwood Reporter Tom Brigham. Members include Delmar Augustin Gerald Schmoker and Jackie Schott. The group plans its next meeting at Tom Brigham’s home on January 1 at 6:60 p.m.
