Mrs. Ruth Berklund nee Walgreen of Osceola, wed last Sunday to Mr. Berklund of Wahoo, was found dead near her home after being struck by a Northwestern freight train. Police and train crew did not identify a motive or witnesses. The tragedy shocks Osceola and her family.
The Second Legion, sponsored by the American Legion, will hold its turkey shoot at Fairgrounds Park on Sunday November 24 starting at 1 00 p m. A recent shoot drew a large crowd and high scores amid a chilly day. Turkeys and other fowl are contracted and quality is expected to be good. All are invited for a good time and to attend next Sunday at the fair grounds.
Minnie Birchfield born December 7 1875 in Little Rock Arkansas died November 14 1947 at age 72 years 11 months and 8 days. She moved to Osceola as a child with her sister Pearl and brother. She attended Osceola schools and belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary. Survived by sister Pearl nephew Alonzo Birchfield cousins and many friends. Funeral held at Kepner Funeral Parlors with Rev G A Randall in charge on Sunday afternoon November 16. Mrs J Merrick Mrs D B Hulquist sang with Mrs W Schumann at the piano.
The Polk County Fair plans its annual meeting for election of officers on Monday November 24 at Osceola courthouse. Proceedings begin at 8 00 p m with hopes for broad county representation and active participation.

The Osceola High School junior class staged their annual play last Thursday to a large audience in the new auditorium. Readers note the cast of fifteen delivered strong performances and the program included between acts entertainment by a girls trio, boys glee club, and readings. The school band and Lutheran Women’s group presented a grand piano to the school, with the school board president accepting.

Frank T. Anderson born Osceola Nebraska June 14 1877 died Stromsburg Nebraska November 13 1947 aged 70 years 4 months 29 days lifelong Polk County resident and former farmer. He was a devout Baptist and Sunday School attendee with a large circle of friends. He leaves wife Agnes Swanson two daughters Johelyn Chickasaw Oklahoma and Mrs Harry Clement Columbus Nebraska and one son Wayne Osceola.
First Lieutenant Geordon Sundberg husband of Alice Schott Osceola, died when a B 29 Superfortress crashed during a blinding snowstorm on Mount Spokane. Two tail section passengers were injured, three deputies suffered facial burns as debris exploded during investigation. Services held in Osceola and Stromsburg with burial at Stromsburg Cemetery.
