Jasper N. Jeffrey sustained critical burns when his clothing caught fire while burning leaves at his home. He fell into the blaze and was unable to rise before bystanders retrieved him. He was taken to Lulu Olson Hospital with little hope for recovery.
The College of Agriculture reports steady corn butter and egg prices likely over the next 30 days in Nebraska. It notes wheat price recovery hog price weakness and a downward trend in fed steer prices with dairy and egg markets remaining steady to firm.

Alma Dolan learned of the birth of a daughter to Mr and Mrs William Jones in Casper Wyoming The mother will be remembered as Miss Lilian Dolan A few days later Dolan was told her elder daughter Mrs Percy Gay had a baby girl born in Los Angeles California on Saturday
Lydia McCormick, born November 18 1842 in Jefferson County New York, moved with family to Iowa then Nebraska settling in Polk County. She married Alexander McCormick December 25 1858 and raised seven children. she died November 17 after bronchial pneumonia. She was a Church member with many grandchildren and great grandchildren and several relatives attended.
Wesley Chapel reports a lunch and dressed chicken sale at the Iowa Nebraska Light and Power Co. office last Saturday raised 15 dollars. Appreciation is given to all who helped. Various local residents are noted in social and school notices including birthdays, anniversaries, wood-cutting trips, a mock banquet, a student injury, and certificate awards for spelling and attendance at District No. 63.

Mrs. Alice Shay entertained the Kings Daughters at her home Friday of last week. Shelby school grades presented an operetta at the gymnasium on Tuesday evening. Mrs. Phillip Waller of near Osceola visited with her sister Mrs. C Guy Anderson and family. Mr and Mrs Harry Snider and family came from Missouri Valley Saturday and plan to stay.
Mrs Robert McMeekin hosted Hope Circle. South Shelby Club and Queen Esther Class held gatherings. Fun and travel noted with D H Bull moving stock to Shelby, Mildred Casselberry taking a new Prudential post, and a seven and half pound baby girl born to Mr and Mrs Sievert Peterson. Gene Clark visits from Kansas City.
The Osceola Woman's Club divisions gathered Monday in their rooms. Literature led by Mrs A F Nuquist studied International Relations with Mrs Edwin Hedlund in charge. Music met at Mrs Clyde Smith's home with Mrs Homer Hattson covering John Phillip Sousa. Home Economics hosted by Mrs W D Kirtley featured Food and Diet for the sick and Balanced Meals by Mrs C G Greenwood and Mrs W R Kepner. Physical Education met at Hugh School Gym for calisthenics and kickball. Notices for magazine subscriptions and renewals were given to Edith E Gray, phone 154. 3t

Eric Ericson’s death brings relatives from Illinois and Colorado home. funeral for Mrs Swan Larson held with local church attendance. Andrew Larsson dies at about 70 after months of illness. The Women's Civic Improvement Club meets at Scott Hall with a Chadron convention report and a musical operetta style program. Mrs A W Bedell undergoes hand surgery at York hospital after a long prior injury.

Calves at weaning need roughly 500 pounds of corn and 200 pounds of alfalfa for 100 pounds gain. Variations occur due to individual animals and conditions.

Maxcy's mother died in Peru last Thursday with funeral Saturday. Chalmar Daniels and his mother visited Charles Jones on the tableland. Miss Rose Lock and Les Gleason wed Monday with a party at Silver Creek hall. George Heinemeyer and Lawrence Meacham hosted at Forrest Seward's in Osceola. Ragnar Carlson and Clair McCormick hosts in Stromsburg. Tom Meacham and Betty Christian were hosted by Howard Deeter near Swede Home. Harold Maxcy, Myr and Morris Smith visited Bayard Sunday where a bakery opens.
Polk County hosts the second annual Training School of Christian education at the Methodist Church in Stromsburg Nebraska beginning December 6. The twelve session program meets two evenings weekly with two fifty minute periods each night. Accredited teachers will award a certificate from the International Council of Christian Education. Courses include Principles of Teaching, The New Testament, The Message and Program of Christian Religion, and Training in Worship and Devotional Life led by Rev. Elmer Peterson Rev. W. H Wright Rev. J. W. Stiverson and Rev Paul Melin.
The First M E Church urges good turnout for the Union Thanksgiving service at the Lutheran Church Thursday. The Aid Society meets Friday afternoon. Sunday morning congregations grow with new faces. Plans for next Sunday include Sunday School at 10, worship at 11, Epworth League 6:30, evening service 7:30. John Inness leads Epworth League events. Kenneth Miller to lead Sunday evening service. Polk County Leaguers rally planned for Friday night at Polk.
