Mrs Emma Muller, 73, of Herman, taps a magic well then pumps gasoline for use in a power mower. Neighbors deny fuel shortages at three nearby bulk plants while the well also supplied drinking water previously. Local reports note various regional developments and a fatality near Tanelle.
The first armed robbery in Howard county netted $3004 at the State Bank in Boelus. The noon Saturday hold up occurred as officials were closing weekly books. Search for the man continues.
A 15 year old Central City student Jerry Tucker saved three year old Jimmy Fischer when the boy wandered onto active railroad tracks. Tucker grabbed the child as signals warned of an approaching streamliner, narrowly pulling him from danger.
Jerome and Marcel Kovar encountered a wild Canadian goose on a city sidewalk. Marcel pursued as the bird sped up then took flight like a B29, honking farewell before vanishing from view.
Eddie Krohn warned a mysterious sportsman to return for the ducks after six of his seven tame birds were shot Friday afternoon with three .410 and three 12 gauge shells. The incident mirrors a similar event from last year reported by The Albion News.
Washington D C last Thursday death of Clark Griffith a famed baseball figure brings to mind a bequest in the will of his half brother Thaddeus I C Pemberton of Arlington. Pemberton died in 1943 and left Griffith ten dollars, the owner of the Washington Senators Blair Pilot Tribune.

John Rowan died last Friday November 11 at Osceola hospital at age 85. His remains were taken to his former Mills Nebraska home for funeral services on Sunday. He and his wife moved to Osceola about a year ago to join his son Glenn and grandson Harlan who operate the new Standard station in Osceola.
Funeral services were held at Florence Nebraska last Friday for Lew J Dey 73 of Calhoun Nebraska formerly a long time resident of the Gresham community. He is survived by his wife Anna and four sons Carlos and Arnold of Calhoun Harold of Columbus and Donald of Martinez California. four daughters Mrs Arthur Staben of Calhoun Mrs Harold Nord of Manhattan Kansas Mrs Eggleston of Omaha and Mrs Marjorie Smith of Blair. one sister Mrs Carl Schleuter of Gresham.

Michael A. Mills seven year old son of Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Mills Jr. died November 14 1955 in Osceola Nebraska after a brief illness. Funeral services were held November 16 1955 at St. Pauls Lutheran Osceola with Rev. Homer P. Bollinger and Dr. Frank E. Court. Interment followed in the Osceola cemetery with pallbearers from the Osceola high school football team. He was born May 21 1948 at St. Francis Hospital Osceola and attended the Osceola public schools in the second grade. He is survived by his parents a sister Christina Anne Mills and grandparents Geo Gallup and Mr and Mrs M A Mills. The community mourns the loss of a beloved boy.
Sunday evening visitors Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Jones called on Ansel Pehrson and spent time at his home.
Dr Ernest G Jarmin aged 69 of Pomona California died November 5 from a heart attack after about two weeks in hospital. Funeral services were held November 9 at 1 30 p m. He was the second son of Nels and Blanche Jarmin, raised near Osceola. He practiced medicine in Lincoln in the early 1920s before moving to California. Survived by wife Florence and daughter Carolyn of Pomona, plus three brothers and two sisters in Nebraska Kansas and California.
Superintendent C W Walker announces that Osceola schools will close Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving. Classes will dismiss next Wednesday afternoon and resume Monday morning as usual.
A Nebraska region endured freezing temperatures reaching near zero with Harold Klingman recording minus four degrees and nearby readings at minus three. Cloudy skies gave way to sun Wednesday as a light snow event occurred Tuesday night with about half an inch and trace moisture. No major utility interruptions occurred though some icy patches formed on highways and travel was briefly affected in isolated spots.

An open house will be held at Swiss Hall in Columbus on Saturday November 19 from 2:00 to 5:00 p m honoring the silver wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs George Geier.
Two car crash on county road west of Osceola claims the life of Chauncey Shorty Arnold Stromsburg barber age 64. Judith Anderson driving west and Arnold south collided throwing both from the vehicle. Wayland Friedman injured. Anderson bruised and sought help at a nearby farm. Coroner inquest set for November 17. Surviving Arnolds include wife C. J. Arnold, son William and daughter Mrs Venice Burton. Services were held Monday.
Actual construction on the An nie Jeffrey Memorial County Hospital is in the final stages with floor tile setters arriving to complete the floor work. Plumbers will install fixtures after tiling. paint crews will touch up rooms once flooring proceeds. X ray department equipment is on site awaiting wiring and painting before installation.
Richard Swan completed naval boat training in San Diego and arrived in Osceola for a two week leave with his mother Mrs Rose Swan and siblings. He plans to depart Sunday November 20 for San Francisco to attend electronics school.
Osceola Volunteer Fire Department to hold its annual oyster supper Thursday night November 17 at 7 00 p m in the legion club rooms. The event serves as a meeting for firemen and their wives and is the regular monthly gathering for the group.
Mrs. Amanda Waite a longtime resident of the southwest part of the city died Monday evening after a lingering illness. She was moved to the Social Center Rest Home north of Osceola last spring and funeral services are set for Thursday afternoon with interment in Osceola cemetery.
The 4-H County Council held its annual meeting in Swanson Hall Stromsburg on November 8 with a covered dish supper and a program focused on planning the 1956 county activities. Allen Anderson presided as president, and Elaine Skucius discussed other county councils. Four discussion groups explored engaging 4-H clubs and parent involvement. The county Womens Council planning session occurred November 7 with six members present.
The annual county 4-H Achievement meeting will be at Shelby parish hall on Friday evening November 25 with a 6 30 p m covered dish supper followed by a program of club numbers and awards. Happy Lassies 4-H Club held its first meeting of the year at Shirley Doremus home with Barbara Rystrom leading business and plans for two Christmas parties and Achievement Night rehearsals. A new member joined. gifts were given to leaders Mrs Orley Conkling and Mrs Elmer Johnson. Daisy Dairy Club met at Robert Wieseman home November 11 with 18 members. officer elections were held with Bobby McCormick president and Diane Scherer news reporter. Next meeting is in February.
The Presbyterian Church group led by Ken Singington sponsors a Christmas toy drive for Children’s Memorial Hospital. Donations accepted via Mrs. Vera Johnston at 3487, due by December 15. Toys will form a daily toy library for hospital children to choose from each afternoon.
The 4-H Home Making Club met at Mrs. Fred Wieseman's home for a biscuit making demonstration led by Jackie Rutter and Beverly Wieseman. Lunch was served by Mrs. Wieseman. The next gathering at Mrs. Effie Fernandez's home will feature a club members program for their mothers.
Nebraska fans praised a strong 1951 style performance against Colorado at Lincoln. The writer notes improved spirit after earlier criticism, with the 35 000 crowd saluting the flag and national anthem as Old Glory entered the field.
