Boys Have Chance to Own Collie Pup at Muse Theatre

Joe Chantry of the Muse Theatre Osceola announces a contest tied to the MGM Lassie film Courage of Lassie. Local youths 14 and under can win a collie puppy from Golden Red Farms by identifying dog breeds and writing a short essay. District doctors meet in Osceola

Twenty six doctors and ten Auxiliary members from over the 6th Councilor District gathered in Osceola for their regular monthly meeting. Legion Auxiliary members served a turkey dinner in the Legion Rooms before the business session. Guests included Dr. Mullins and Dr. Eggers of Omaha, with Mrs. Houston addressing the Auxiliary.

Sunday marked the 75th birthday of Albert Johnson of Stromsburg. His children and relatives gathered at his home for a family dinner with attendees from Osceola Lincoln Geneva Benedict and Polk County including Carleton Anderson DeLoss Buchholz Raymond Branting Wm Buhl Oscar Johnson Donald Bennett Glen Felix Kenneth Johnson Byron and Fred families. Earl Johnson was absent.

Whiting and Anderson Vow at Albion Methodist Church

Lorraine Whiting and Wayne Anderson wed in a Friday ceremony at Albion Methodist Church. Rev E C Mitchel officiated the double ring ceremony with a reception in the church parlors. The bride wore ivory brocaded satin and gardenia bouquet. the groom is an Osceola native who served in the South Pacific. They will live near Osceola after a short wedding trip.

The bride is daughter of Mrs Willis Jackson of Grand Junction. groom is son of Mr and Mrs Hugh Johnston. He served in the army three years including time with General Patton's 3rd Army in Europe. The couple reside at the Hugh Johnston home.

Jacob Micek Sr. Succumbs at 93 in Polk County

Jacob Micek Sr. 93 a Polk County resident north of Osceola died last Wednesday November 6 at his farm home. He leaves a widow and fourteen children seven sons Anton Frank Joe Tom Jacob Jr Andrew and John and seven daughters Helen Anna and others in Cedar Rapids Neb Genoa Fullerton and at home. He was survived by 46 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday at St Marys Church with burial there.

The Farmer's Home Administration becomes the new agency in the U S Department of Agriculture by absorbing the Farm Securities Administration and parts of the Farm Credit Administration. The merger took effect November 1 with existing personnel and offices retained, and staff to remain in place until organizational details are approved.
