Obituary for James McMeekin of Shelby Nebraska 1845 1926
James McMeekin born in April 1845 in County Down Ireland died October 1926 at home in Shelby Nebraska. He married Elizabeth Mewhaw in 1880 in Millste, Co Down and they immigrated to Coal Valley Illinois the same year then Polk County Nebraska in 1884, five miles north of Shelby, later moving to Shelby in 1917. Survived by twelve children George James Frank Robert Hugh John Isabel Nellie Margaret Mary Helen Ruby, a sister Jane Taylor and thirty grandchildren. He attended the Presbyterian Church in Ireland and later the United Brethren Church, serving as Steward and Trustee. Funeral plans follow local wishes.
