Jeffrey Bequest Reduces District 19 Bond Run to Half
Dr. Charles W. Jeffrey announced a gift of 140700 to School District No. 19 at the alumni banquet. The bequest cancels all principal and interest after 1969, ending the 27 year issue in 13 years and saving about 20 percent in interest. City Purchases New Street Cleaning Unit
At a special City Council meeting last Tuesday night a motion to buy a new street cleaning machine was approved. The unit named The Gutter Snipe had a successful trial on local streets and features a front spray to settle dirt and a rear rotary brush to sweep debris into a hopper for disposal. Delivery is expected later this week.

Firemen Plan Rural Fire Districts for Four Polk County Towns
Osceola firemen and colleagues from Polk Stromsburg Osceola and Shelby counties are advancing rural fire district plans to improve protection and response. County maps will show farm owners and district boundaries with a publication expected next week.
