Donelson Reunion Brings 70 Relatives Together in Stromsburg

The 39th Donelson reunion gathered about 70 family members at Buckley Park in Stromsburg on Sunday. Attendees included Ralph and Sally Donelson of Central City, numerous Donelson relatives from Stromsburg and Osceola, and serving committee members Mrs. Lloyd Widga and Mrs. Harlen Donelson. The next reunion is set for the first Sunday in June at Buckley Park.

Osceola fire department publishes a map in Polk county showing proposed rural fire district boundaries. Nebraska law requires districts to contain at least 36 sections, balancing funds and protection for farms within ten miles of storage, with towns influencing district edges. Warning Issued To Alfalfa Growers In Nebraska

Nebraska alfalfa growers were alerted to watch for the spotted alfalfa aphid after heavy infestations were reported in southeastern Kansas and the pest began migrating north. The insect is small with spotted back and secretes honeydew, stunting hay and browning leaves, especially in new seedings. Malathion at 10 ounces per acre is recommended for ground applications with 10-12 gallons of water per acre, applied at 70 degrees or higher.

Siglers Move Ahead in City Softball Standings

Last week Siglers defeated the Record team to seize the uncontested lead in the city league. Maleks beat East Side 16 to 11, with a second game postponed by a approaching storm. In Friday’s opener Crouses topped Andersons 16 to 4 as Siglers also won 9 to 3 to climb atop the standings among eight teams.

Three OHS Students to Attend All State Fine Arts Course

Three Osceola High School students Mary Mardell Berck Jeanne Louise Inness and Steve Sigler will travel to Lincoln Nebraska for the All State High School Fine Arts Course at the University of Nebraska. Fire Destroys Osceola Garages at Pehrson Home

A blaze of undetermined origin gutted the garage at the east edge of Osceola owned by Mr and Mrs Elmer Pehrson on Saturday afternoon. Firefighters saved surrounding structures as the 1949 model car near the garage burned in the flames.

Weather records show May produced 3.77 inches of moisture in 31 days, lifting the yearly total to 6.87 inches. Temperatures ranged from 40s to 90s with a May 12 storm bringing 1.60 inches and hail.

Congregation Bids Farewell to Minister Bollinger

Rev. Homer P. Bollinger delivered his farewell sermon at Osceola Methodist Church as he requests release after seven years of service. About 300 attended worship and 150 met in the fellowship hall to honor him and Mary Carol who will accompany him to the new location. Mrs. A. F. Nuquist spoke and summarized his pastorate while MYF led the group singing. Bollinger and lay delegate Leroy Rhodes are in Fremont for the Nebraska Methodist Conference with appointments to be announced.
