Eighth Grade Graduation For Polk County Sees 223 Pupils

Polk County Eighth Grade graduation exercises will be held at the Osceola Auditoriums on Tuesday June 5 at 2 15 PM. 223 graduates the largest in county history with Judge W W Norton delivering an address. Students meet at the county superintendent’s office at 1 30 PM for a group photo before proceeding to the auditorium. The program includes music readings and a class address.

Anna Olson aided Ruby Johnson entertaining at Johnson home May 22. President led roll call and prior meeting report. Cheese biscuits and peanut drop cookies judged. prizes awarded Doris Toline, Irene Jones, Inez Jones for biscuits and Anna Olson, Florence Anderson for cookies. Three new members joined, total 13. Mr and Mrs Nels Anderson hosted dinner guests at the Will Dunn home. Miss Chell Crozier closed her term with a District 68 picnic. Dorothy Augustine of Shelby stayed with her sister Mrs Edmund Schott and visited Dist 13 school. A Petersburg visit by a Schott sister preceded a trip home. Will Zimmerman and a runaway bridle caused a scare but no major damage. Mrs C J Augustine visited the Schott home and attended the Dist 12 picnic. Adolph Kresha Sr worked on hill road projects north of town. Little Miaxine Dunny continues to improve after cataract development, eye surgery planned. Walter Morys shelled corn. Zimmerman traveled to Stromsburg. Rudolf Urban and children visited Shelby parents Monday. Fred Dunn and family had supper with James Dunn Sr. Dist 33 closed with a 100+ attendee picnic and cafeteria-style dinner. Edmund Schett and daughters joined a Kubicek party. Kopf and child visited Frank Alt, who drove to Lincoln. Frank Kotzer aided Harry Henning on the farm. Julius Nebosis traveled to Duncan.

Harmony Society Luncheon and Supper at Hotchkiss Building

St Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church announces a Saturday luncheon and supper at the Hotchkiss building on the south side starting 2 PM. Trinity Sunday services follow Sunday June 3 with Swedish worship at 11 AM and Luther League at 8 PM. A Chinese song talk by Rev Lundeen and family is planned for Friday June 8.

Child Drowns in Rain Barrel Near Stromsburg

A two year old boy, son of Mr and Mrs Llambert Swanson, drowned Monday after falling into a rain barrel about 12 inches deep two miles east of Stromsburg. Mrs Swanson was washing when the accident occurred. The funeral was held at Green's Chapel with Rev Pruitt officiating.

Beulah Mrs Hilbert Buchta and children rode to Omaha for a visit with relatives. Several families including the Wilcox land group and the Headley home crowd gathered in Osceola for Sunday visits. A Platte Valley Workers Sewing Club met with 12 members led by Mrs G L Friday, Vern Dake elected president and Clara Rech secretary. A Swede Home Fairview Ladies Aid program featured two plays and music with ice cream and cake. A family reunion for Mrs George Horst’s son Ralph and family of New Orleans was hosted with many Buchta and Dake relatives attending. The Horest home also hosted a fish outing and sympathy extended for the Seward infant. Contacts note activities of local residents and fraternal group meetings.
