Memorial Day Sprays Requested by Auxiliary Members
The American Legion Auxiliary met with seventeen members present. Members were asked to provide ten sprays of fresh or artificial flowers to be left at the Methodist parsonage by 7 AM Monday. Outsiders may donate flowers. Ruth Lux delivered pillows, laprobes and quilts to the Veterans Hospital in Grand Island. The unit voted to donate to the Past President's Project for a hospitalized woman veteran. Proceeds from Poppy Day totaled 103.18 dollars. A Poppy Day and Memorial Day article was read. The Girl's State Tea is set for Friday, June 18, with Mildred Sigler as chairman.

Shelby approves NPPD lease of electric distribution system
The Shelby city council approves a 15 year lease with Nebraska Public Power District to own and operate the municipal distribution system. NPPD will pay 10 percent of adjusted retail revenue annually plus revenue taxes and municipal discounts. Osceola senior Cal Coffin won the Class C 440 yard dash with a 50.4 seconds and anchored the fifth place 880 yard relay squad (Coffin, Jim Green, Jim Carlson, Lynn Boden) at the state meet.
