A shuffled mix of local notes covers a dramatic dog poisoning case, possible suspects, and stray dog safety warnings. Uncle John Conklyn’s return after winter, riders to the city, and Mayweatherlike weather spark chatter among residents.
Local notes report R C Raeher visiting Omaha J L Heald Lincoln trip H V Harlan Cedar Rapids and many others traveling to Shelby Shelby Lincoln Stromsburg and York with social visits business trips and church duties. Several residents attend events in Lincoln Omaha and nearby towns while others plan vacations and family visits including trips to Nebraska City Geneva and Henderson.
J F Ayres buys Dr A M Bells city property west of the Baptist church for about 8000 dollars with immediate possession and 75 foot frontage. The Bells retain the east half and plan to build this summer. The couple will vacation a month for Mrs Bells health. The sale ends rumors Ayres owns a big Little Gold and Silver mine.
Rev. R A Jensen delivered the baccalaureate address titled Reaching Forth at the Methodist church last night. He based his talk on Philippians 3 13 14 and spoke on preparedness and opportunity as key factors shaping the future as a large congregation listened to the message with several musical performances.
Principal Norval Pearce entertained the freshman class at a hotel banquet Saturday evening. Musical numbers by Miss Bittner and Miss Cooper plus reading by Mrs. C. B. Moore delighted attendees. Pearce spoke and read a poem to applause as refreshments followed in a well decorated dining room.
The Monson Company pledges five percent of its Thursday receipts to the new Swede Home church. The dedication exercises start Thursday with Friday the 28th marking the formal dedication and ongoing services and activities by church auxiliaries. This fundraiser helps the congregation add to their church total.
No services will be held next Sunday because of the L L Convention in Swede Home. The Busy Bee meets Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Thelma Johnson.
A notice for a Chinese auction sale by A. C. Monson Company in Osceola Nebraska lists women and losses suits valued at 30 dollars with declining daily prices from May 25 to May 27. The price drops each day from 6.10 to 5.60, encouraging thorough bidding by attendees.
Announcement of a big sale at Monson Company's two stores offering women and misses coats and suits at very cheap prices. Also classified ads for house sales near the square, a death notice for Wm R Wilson in Independence, furniture for sale at Van Vincks, a reception for Dr Taylor and others leaving town, and a Baptist Ladies Aid ice cream and cake sale on May 31 with supper to follow at the auditorium.
The Osceola Nebraska City Council approves a budget estimate for the year ending May 4 1916 totaling 9500 in revenue and detailing 300 for fire protection 1500 for electric lights 1500 for officers salaries 150 for printing 2000 for streets 150 for prosecutions 250 for other incidental 1000 for water works 250 for libraries 900 for water bond interest and 1500 for bond sinking. The plan calls for publication in the Osceola Record for four weeks and a special session on June 2 at 7 30 pm to pass the annual appropriation bill.
