The Muse Theatre completed a new wide Panoramic screen replacing the old one. The screen now occupies the full stage, offering more lifelike pictures and clearer viewing for all shows.
District No 60 west of Osceola held a schoolhouse picnic Sunday to honor the teacher. Mrs Floyd Hines organized the event which featured Ted Haas of KMMJ Grand Island who originated Hello There. W H Norton of Osceola spoke and Haas recorded the talk for rebroadcast on KMMJ May 10 with about 40 attendees.
Eleven friends organized a fencing crew to erect 160 rods of woven wire fence for Carder Throckmorton last week. They drove posts with a rental driver and completed the job in one afternoon. Participants included Ansel Fredrickson Verlin Johnson Gerald Obrist Jr Earl Thelander Martin Gestrine Roger Gestrine Gerald Holm Levert Oquist John Miller and Emil Eubling.
Seward City Council voted to deed the east park section without consideration for a state armory site. Officials hope the building will rise in Seward within the next two to three years, per the Utica Sun report.
Albert Hultine a veteran Saron ville cattleman and longtime Polled Shorthorn breeder is inducted into Nebraska Hall of Fame for men connected with the livestock industry. Harvard has turned over to the federal government an estimated construction cost of 397000 for its new school building. This was to qualify for a 55120 grant from Uncle Sam to aid the project.
Funeral services were held Saturday in Bassett for Lee Martis Rowse two percent year old son of Mr and Mrs Dean Rowse. The child was crushed to death by a hay underslung at the Rowse ranch after leaving a play area near the house and entering the barnyard where his father operated a tractor unaware of the boy’s presence.
During a Friday special meeting the county Board of Commissioners approved a new salary schedule to align with neighboring Class 3 counties. The measure adds 200 dollars per year to all offices and to the salaries of three deputies, Stanton Register.
The Blair Chamber of Commerce voted Tuesday evening against holding a Blair Fourth of July celebration this year. The Blair Pilot-Tribune notes many supporters vote yes as formality but do not help when the program is prepared.

Superintendent Clair W Walker announces senior end of year activities start Monday May 10 with Recognition Night at 7 30 pm. About 100 students will receive awards from multiple departments and organizations. Upcoming events include band concerts May 6 and 14, Baccalaureate May 16, Commencement May 18, eighth grade graduation May 19, and the OHS Alumni Banquet May 28.
The St. Vincent Holy Name Society will honor all parish ladies next Sunday May 9 with a party at 7 30 p m in the parish hall. Awards will be given to qualifying ladies and the evening will be social. Committee led by John Cerny Francis Urban and Jerold Ruzicka.

Demaris Johnson daughter of Mr and Mrs Don Johnson of Osceola was named Luther College May Queen at a campus ceremony Saturday afternoon. The sophomore from Wah hoo college received the crown from Rev Theodore Johnson. Polk county student Janis Peterson of Stromsburg also served on the court.
Miss Annette Hageman daughter of Ithaca Mr. and Mrs Ewart Hageman wed Duane Swanson son of Osceola Mr. and Mrs Mauritz Swanson in an afternoon May 2 service at Evangelical United Brethren Church Ithaca Rev O W Matzke officiated. Attendants included maid of honor Miss Carol Hageman and bridesmaids from Ithaca Omaha Wahoo and Osceola. The couple plans a South trip then to Lincoln where Duane will finish at the university.
Ericha Mathilda Collison born September 27 1869 in Sweden died May 1 at Rest Manor Osceola. Funeral services held Monday in Osceola and Ord Nebraska with interment in Old Cemetery. She was mother of Willard Cornell of this city.
April brought moderate temperatures with a high of 91 on the 25th and a cold snap to 26 28 degrees. Rainfall totaled 2.53 inches from the 15th plus 1.45 inches after April ended, with wet snow at week’s end, and Osceola observer Harold Klingman notes four inches of moisture since the 15th.

Friday, April 30, the Junior Senior Banquet at the high school auditorium featured a Penthouse theme with sky blue decor, candlelit tables, and a meal by Catholic ladies. Performances included class prophecy, will reading, and guest Mr Walker with The Swing Kings of Albion providing post banquet dancing. The event, praised as well conducted, credited the junior class and sponsor Mr Manley.

The Sowers Club from Lincoln will arrive in Osceola next Tuesday May 11 in two chartered buses at 2 30 p m. They will stay 20 to 30 minutes. Lincoln businessmen will renew acquaintances and distribute favors to children. The stop in Osceola is the county’s only scheduled visit then the group proceeds to Butler County and back to Lincoln the same night. The school band will greet them on arrival.
Polk County Extension Council and 18 clubs with 286 members establish a yearly four year scholarship for Home Economics first and Nursing second. A drawing assigns Shelby Osceola Stromsburg and Polk to select recipients, starting this September. If a town lacks an eligible graduate, the next town takes the award. Funding comes from a 30 cent per member free will offering.
A group from the Eastern Star chartered a bus to attend Grand Chapter in Omaha next Wednesday May 12. The Osceola departure is 7 30 a m and Omaha return is 10 30 p m. Seven seats remain for interested riders including nonmembers. contact Mrs Albert Timm.
