Death of Grandma Hotchkiss Brings Sorrow to Osceola
The community mourns the death of Mrs. Maria M Henderson known as Grandma Hotchkiss who died April 27 1902 at age 70 years 5 months and 1 day. Born in Venango County Pennsylvania she married D B Hotchkiss and leaves ten children eight living including D W Hotchkiss Fremont Nebraska Abbie J Roach Clyde Kansas Julia M Holt Gilbert B Burt Finley A Hotchkiss Hubert A Hotchkiss and James C Hotchkiss of Fremont. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the home with Rev Bowers of York delivering the sermon. Interment followed in Osceola cemetery.

Changes in War Revenue Law Effective July 1 1902
The act of congress approved April 12 1902 repeals taxes from July 1 1902 and lowers several rates. It covers brokers bankers dealers in grain securities pawnbrokers and others with new stamp duties on stock transfers and tobacco products. Drawback allowed on original factory tobacco and snuff. claims must be filed within sixty days of July 1 for amounts at least ten dollars. Estates of those dying before July 1 1902 are subject to legacy tax. Deputy Collector C P R Williams notes this from Columbus Ohio to Napa.

Osceola community mourns FP L Chenoweth a long time resident of the county who died after several weeks of illness. Born in Illinois in 1861 he came to the area in 1872 with his wife Ida Sevder they had one son. The funeral will be held at his home with A C U O W assisting and Rev W J Teut delivering the sermon. He was a devoted husband father and neighbor leaving many friends and relatives in sorrow.
