Nebraska motorists set a new high in 1937 with 447,900 license plates issued, up from 445,518 in 1936. Revenue from licenses and registrations totaled 2,186,381, with gains across all vehicle types except passenger cars. The largest rise occurred in trailers, while Polk County reported 3,813 vehicles and 17,099 dollars in fees.
Dewey J DeBoer a Columbus transmission engineer says Loup River public power districts rural lines will undergo line tests midweek. Farmers in the east half will receive regular service around April 3. Fred Albert maintenance engineer notes seepage problem easing as Lake Babcock level drops four feet and expects this relief to last months May 1 energizing date set for 350 miles of Polk county district lines. Frances Cordelia MacDermitt DeLand born Dec 25 1857 in Point Pleasant Madison County West Virginia died March 27 1988 at her Osceola Nebraska home at 80 years 3 months and 2 days. She moved from Illinois to Osceola in 1885 and was married to Amos E DeLand in Christian County Illinois on December 22 1880. She leaves five children ten grandchildren and many relatives. Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church and interment followed at Osceola Cemetery.
The Methodist Church outlines a full day starting with 10:00 a.m. Sunday School led by Superintendent Elton Berck, an 11:00 a.m. junior sermon A Man's Ear, and an adult sermon The Mistrial of Jesus. A basket dinner follows at noon. Evening Leagues and Youth activities run 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Official Board meets at 8:00 p.m. The W.H.M.S. meets Tuesday afternoon with Christina Horst and Nell Campbell. Four delegates attended the Nebraska Methodist Youth Conference at Hastings, led by Rev. Monkman and Bishop Oxnam.
Mrs A A Eklund and her son from Gresham visited on Tuesday as guests of her son Dr Eklund and his family.
Eldon Lukesh state engineer was accidentally struck by a car Friday while at work on highway No. 16 east of Shelby. He was picked up by the Omaha motorist and brought to Dr. Brillhart in Shelby. Lukesh sustained no serious injuries though he was painfully bruised. Nearby, visitors from Montezuma and Osceola joined Shelby families for weddings, funerals, and birthdays. A baby girl Betsy Jane was born to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Reeder at Shelby hospital. The Branigans returned to their farm from Council Bluffs for medical reasons. a 80th birthday party honored Mrs. Sievert with many attendees from surrounding towns.
The Nebraska State Medical Association sponsors a campaign against venereal diseases urging public cooperation. Dr Elmer Hensen of Lincoln will lecture at New Muse Theatre at 2 30 p m Thursday to inform high school age and up about the issue and its impact on potential mothers.

National Air Mail Week, May 15 to 21, 1938, is launched with Paul R. Younts named national chairman and Harley G. Moorhead as Nebraska state chairman. The plan calls for broad organizing and widespread events to boost awareness of aviation and airmail across 46 000 cities. Kitty Hawk will host a special official cachet honoring the Wright brothers first flight.
Mrs. Klepering presided at the March meeting of the Womens Civic Improvement Club in Scott Hall with musical numbers and business session focusing on the Fourth District Convention of the Nebraska Federation of Womens Clubs to be held in Stromsburg April 19–20. Officers elected: President Mrs. Frank Nordberg, Vice President Mrs. J. T. Stanton, Secretary Mrs. Arthur D. Morrill, Treasurer Mrs. Jennie Stanton, Corresponding Secretary Mrs. W. M. Scott, Auditor Miss Eva Mouden. Clair McCormick left for Western Iowa and northwestern Missouri to take a salesman position with Gooch Mills in Lincoln. A York car collision near the Swedish Baptist Church injured Darlene Nelson and others. both cars wrecked. Mrs. Andrew Nyquist, 53, died at home after a long illness. funeral held at J. L. Olson Funeral Home with Rev. Simon Carlson. Survived by husband Andrew, one daughter in Stromsburg, two brothers Leonard Johnson and Theodore Johnson, and sister Mrs. Charley Lambert. Stromsburg plans summer electrical distribution rebuild under WPA. George Phillips left for Ashton Idaho for work.
Treasury report shows Nebraska residents own $7.29 in government baby bonds per person. State total reached $10,041,887 as of August 31, with Columbus top among first class post offices, Seward leading second class, and Osceola Weston leading third and fourth classes. Lincoln ranks second among first class offices with $1,087,043.750 in bonds since March 1935.
Mr. and Mrs. Einfred Peterson hosted visitors at the William Larson home on Thursday evening. Numerous calls and dinners mark a busy week with families from Stromsburg, Benedict, and Lincoln visiting in the area. The High Prairie Ladies Club and Farmers Union prepare events, and church group activities invite participation from Swede Home and nearby communities.

Many named residents and visitors from Lincoln York Henderson Polk and Osceola extend greetings and attend events including dinners and weekend visits.
Mr and Mrs Horace Gray and their son from Omaha arrived Saturday to spend the weekend with Mrs Clyde Smith and her family Duration of visit not specified and no additional events noted.
The Nebraska ACP committee assigns 6.7 million acres to 64 corn counties and 15 million acres to all 93 counties for depleting crops under the 1938 farm act. Allocations reflect 1928–37 crops and AA trends, with county and community plans to divide among farms. Polk County’s depleting total is 159,120 acres, corn allotment 92,852.
An ambulance from St. Paul Nebraska, carrying three men, collided with a corn truck west of Osceola around 9 PM Tuesday. The truck driver was unhurt. the ambulance occupants sustained minor cuts and a broken rib for one. Both vehicles were damaged. injuries treated locally and occupants continued to St. Paul.
Ruth Wyman of Silver Creek admitted Saturday as medical patient of Dr. Alliband. Douglas Steever, after appendicitis operation by Dr. Alliband last week, returned home Wednesday. Vincent Lane treated by Dr. Alliband several days last week. Robert Fisher seriously ill with pneumonia improving. patient of Dr. Eklund. Reed Dawson, patient of Dr. Eklund, improving. Mrs. James Cook, who had major surgery by Dr. Alliband, returned home Wednesday.
The April 3rd Sunday School at 10:00, Bible Class Kensington meets Friday with Miss Melba Davis, and the annual congregational meeting set for Tuesday, April 5th. Officers remind all church groups to submit annual reports. Covered dish supper planned. all worshippers urged to attend.
The Women's Home Missionary Society will meet with Miss Christine Horst on Tuesday April 5 with Miss Nell Campbell as assisting hostess. Mrs. S. P. Johnson has returned home from a week in Denver.
