Painfully Injured In An Unusual Accident
Bill Wendt of Columbus sustained a broken leg and minor injuries in a Monday night incident near a hotel. After starting his car and backing away, he failed to remove it from gear during a second cranking, causing the engine to run forward and trap his leg between the bumper and a hotel post. He received a severe cut and leg fractures, treated at Osceola Hospital and later moved to a Columbus hospital.

Early Seeding Boosts Oats and Barley Yields at Nebraska Station
Over 14 years, early March sowing of Kherson oats produced higher yields than April sowing, with March 30 and March 19 plantings often outperforming later dates. Seven year barley trials show earlier seedings yielding up to 27 bushels per acre, while later sowings lagged. Ripening dates shifted from late June to early July, with earlier crops maturing sooner.

Bridge Benefit Draws Large Attendance in Shelby Polk
The Qoscoola Womans Club sponsored a bridge and jigsaw puzzle party at the American Legion Hall Monday night. A total of 23 dollars was raised from ticket sales with thirty bridge tables and one puzzle table. Shelby participants totaled sixteen, Polk eight. Prizes went to F. W Schumann and Leroy Lance for high bridge score, Paul Engelhardt and Charles Crew for second high, and Arthur Schsiz for the puzzle draw. Refreshments closed the event.

Ella Andresen Newcomer died at her York County home seven miles northeast of York last Wednesday around 12:30 PM after a three week illness. She leaves husband William H Newcomer two sons William and James three daughters Lucille Ruth Natalie her mother Christine Andresen of York a brother T C Andresen of Cheyenne Wyoming and three sisters Mrs William Witte of Long Beach California Mrs George Craven of Osceola and Mrs T H Clifford of York. Funeral at York Presbyterian Church last Friday 2 PM conducted by Rev Ramsay with Rev Paul Turner assisting burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
