Miss Jean Brazee daughter of Mr and Mrs Wesley Brazee formerly of Shelby and James Dunn son of Mr and Mrs Fred Dunn of Osceola were married at the United Brethren Church in Glendale California at 3 30 p m on Saturday March 21 The bride is a Shelby high school graduate class of 1941 and has been in California since She is employed there The groom a Osceola high school graduate class of 1934 has farmed with his father and worked in defense in California The couple will reside in Glendale California.
Mr and Mrs H H Morris announce the marriage of their daughter Marjorie to George T Robertson of Lexington Nebraska at First Presbyterian church Lincoln on Friday March 20 at 7 pm The ceremony was led by Reverend Thomas A Barton The bride wore powder blue crepe with a V neckline and matching blue hat They left for a short wedding trip after dinner at the Cornhusker hotel Mrs Robertson heads the Osceola high school commercial department She is a Cozad and Nebraska graduate Mr Robertson an assistant supervisor of Farm Security in Lexington Hastings College and Nebraska graduate students completed at the university
John Peter Paulson born August 28 1890 in Hurja Sweden died March 15 1942 at Stromsburg Nebraska at 51.5 years survived by brother Nels Paulson of Osceola and brother Alfred Johanson and four sisters Mollie Paulina Nellie and Johanna in Sweden. Last rites were March 18 at Kepner Funeral Home and Stromsburg Lutheran Church with Rev. A E Tru ed. interment in Stromsburg cemetery.
Miss Alice Madison daughter of Mrs Frank Madison of Clarks and Lewis Dunn son of Mr and Mrs Calmar Dunn of Osceola were united in marriage at the bride’s home in Clarks on Sunday March 22. Rev Melvin Irland performed the ceremony. Attendants were Mrs Kenneth Lord and Don Madison. The bride’s been teacher in Chapman Nebr and is a Clarks High School 1939 graduate. The groom, Osceola High School 1936, has farm work with his father.
District 40 suspends classes for a few days after one scarlet fever case in the Al fred Gabel family. The illness appears mild and the Gabel children are recovering. Locals note several visits and corrections regarding medical staff and area residents.
Harriet Freeman spent the weekend in Omaha for a Young People's rally and to visit her brother Oliver. Several families, including the Nelsons of Wahoo and the Carlsons and Lind of Polk, visited Stromsburg relatives. The Tele phone Company staff pledged to buy defense bonds, and about fifteen Stromsburg Baptist youths attended the Omaha rally. Victor Anderson celebrated his 77th birthday with relatives, as Edwin also marked a birthday.

Dr W Ray Hill announces plan to discontinue his medical practice at the Firestone Rubber Company Ordnance Plant in Wahoo Nebraska next week He will attend a one week instruction in Akron Ohio and then move to Nebraska for new work Mrs Hill and the children will join him soon in Akron or Nebraska as arranged
In Nebraska 289 Masonic lodges met simultaneously Tuesday evening. Osceola, Shelby, Stromsburg, and Polk lodges joined in Osceola for a special address by Supreme Justice Edward F. Carter Grand Master of Nebraska's Masons. Carter urged complete mobilization to defeat Hitler and his associates.
Swede Home Lutheran Church Choir performs The Day of Resurrection by Lincoln Hall on Easter Sunday at 8 p m at the Swede Home Church. A program of processional, sacred solos, duets, choir numbers, and a children’s Sunday School interval closes with benediction. Public invited.
Funeral services were held in Milwaukee Wisconsin for Enid Mamie Conklyn 58 who died in a Milwaukee hospital on March 18. Born May 9 1884 in Osceola Nebraska she taught in Polk County rural schools and at Wayne State Teachers College where she served fifteen years as supervisor of history and algebra. She earned a Masters from Columbia before teaching in Wyoming and Idaho and later lived with her Milwaukee brother Victor before interment in Milwaukee.
District 18 residents share visits and announcements. Ira Thompson marries Katherine Jens Rector of Columbus. Navy recruit Ray Oseka leaves for Great Lakes. PTA meets at the schoolhouse with card games and prizes awarded to several families. Next PTA set for April 17 with entertainment assigned by each family.
Hanson son of Mr and Mrs Joel Hanson Osceola enlisted in the Navy November 24 1941 at Omaha and left for Great Lakes that day. He moved to Bremerton Kodiak Alaska and Cordova Alaska during early 1942 serving as Yeoman third class. age 23 and Osceola High School graduate.
Osceola High School track notes show 18 boys reported for equipment week with eight lettermen. Key veterans include Everitt sprinting, Crossant mile and weights, Parks half mile, Cerny 220 and relay, Gissler high jump and javelin, Kresha 420, Byers sprints, Brazee pole vault, West Parks Polk County vaulter, and Leonard Gissler as a returning scorer. Upcoming meets: April 10 Columbus Invitational, April 22 Polk County York, April 25 York Invitational. Coach Frazer aims to host a county practice meet April 1 at Osceola.
Polk County farmers can help meet 1942 industrial demand for Leoti Red forage sorghum by saving seed from the 1941 crop. County Extension Agent Ray L. Cruise notes about 250000 bushels remain, with planting at one bushel per ten acres. Studies in Lincoln show Leoti’s waxy starch may suit tapioca production and other uses.
The Stoner Club met Wednesday at Hazel Randell's home with Elsie Stewart as assistant hostess. A large gathering included members and several visitors, with various local families visiting across Stromsburg Osceola and Fullerton areas.
