At a Monday city hall meeting concerns over non payment of taxes were aired. County Clerk Briggs cited New Man Grove as having almost ten thousand dollars in delinquent personal taxes. He warned that continued non payment shifts the burden to honest taxpayers and urges effort from those able to pay.
Federal investigators and state liquor inspectors, aided by Deputy Sheriff Sayers, seized a large alcohol still at the Grover C. Maurer farm two miles west of Silver Creek last week. Maurer was arrested for possession and will be turned over to federal authorities. The equipment included a six section rectifying column and a 1000 gallon mash preheating tank and other distillation apparatus.
The Ladies Aid Service Committee for Friday afternoon comprises Mrs. S. W. Calhoun, Mrs. L. M. Merrick, Mrs. M. A. Mills, Mrs. Fred Adkins and Mrs. Carl Bryant.
A soaking rain fell Tuesday across the area with March totals reaching 1.16 inches by Wednesday morning. Much of the moisture arrived in the last 24 hours and the forecast hints at more rain, easing dust storms statewide.

Royal Neighbor Lodge marks forty second anniversary with old time party and prizes. W C Hayhurst and Alois Kosch recoveries noted. Easter lunch served at gathering.
The American Society for the Control of Cancer forms a Women's Field Army to educate the public. The nationwide drive runs March 21 to 27 with $1 memberships sold by appointed lieutenants including Mrs. W. O. Fudge of Osceola and Mrs. Ester Lackey, Polk County Chairman.
Clayton Rystrom returned from Omaha where he attended a large dealer meeting of the International Harvester Motor Truck Organization. The event announced a new line of International motor trucks with twenty six models across seventy seven wheelbases and weights from 4400 to 62000 pounds.
Reeb Bros. Motor Co. advertises tire chains starting at $1.50 with contact at phone 59 in Osceola. The notice stresses affordable prices for winter traction and directs customers to the Osceola location.
Last Thursday Osc eola High held a lively carnival amid darts bingo balloons and confections. About 3000 five cent tickets were used at the bank and prizes went to Mrs. F. T. Butz and Mr. Goldie Johnson as the Junior Class plans the banquet.
The 39th annual Polk County Council of Christian Education convention will be at Green's Chapel church on April 4 with the State Council general secretary and local participants. Sunday School workers should attend and elect delegates for the meeting. A complete program will be published next week.
Local church groups plan meetings with Greens Chapel Ladies Aid and Brotherhood. Residents move to new farm location near Benedict. Polk County Farmer’s Union gathers in Polk with State President Keeney addressing. Numerous visits and dinners mark weekend social life as families and friends travel among Lincoln, Auburn, York, Stromsburg, and David City communities.
At 11:00 a.m. Friday on W N A X Yankton South Dakota Jim mie Barnett's orchestra played Swinging The Blues. The piece was written by John Irland Lester Peters Osceola and Clyde Bowen Stromsburg and Barnett praised Nebraska and Polk County for the young authors and composers.
Harry E. Cane, 40, a laborer, hanged himself in his room on the second floor of a business building. The body was found Monday and authorities believe despondency prompted the act. He is survived by a widow, one son, and two daughters.
Mrs Harlan Carlson hosted guests with Rev and Mrs Melin of Osceola visiting last week. Osceola and Victor school members attended a spelling contest in Osceola. Numerous relatives and neighbors from Shelby, York, Omaha and nearby towns visited at homes of Lindgren, Hennings, Knerr, Rosdahl and Peterson families over the weekend. Continuous neighborly gatherings highlighted by Sunday and Thursday visits.

A blizzard ended winter with one half inch moisture and light rain later, while seniors surprised Harvey Sundberg for his birthday. Families hosted dinners and dinners, with many visits among local households and out‑of‑town guests amid weekend gatherings.
