Visitors to the Polk County Fair this fall will see a new grandstand entrance on the west end with an incline and reduced stairs. Bleachers now seat about 1500 along the grandstand, a band platform and judges’ stand are planned, cattle and horse barns rebuilt, all buildings repainted aluminum, and the secretary’s office moved near the entrance.
Miss Irene Herrmann daughter of Mr and Mrs Lewis Herrmann of this city and Lawrence Cremeen son of Mr and Mrs Walter Cremeen of Clarks were married Friday March 16 in Omaha by the County Judge of Douglas County. The bride wore a blue and gray suit with matching accessories. She is a 1933 Osceola High School graduate. The groom, a Silver Creek High School graduate, has helped his father on the farm. They will reside on a farm near Clarks.
The Wesley Chapel Missionary Society met with Mrs. Alvin Weeden. March 17 marked the 37th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. John Nelson, celebrated by their daughter Mrs. Clarence Anderson and neighbors. Dist 40 opened a Farmers Union program at Miller school. J N Jarmin, Polk County resident for over 60 years, died after a long illness. Families from Fairbury and Gresham visited relatives. others were at local homes for Sunday visits and sickness care.

A new roof is being placed on the Swedish Lutheran Church and the parsonage in Stromsburg this week. The Peoples Party Caucus met in the high school auditorium with about 300 attendees and nominations by acclamation for mayor council and school board.
Archie Holtzen bookkeeper at the Reed Brothers Motor Company was badly cut in the face by window glass when a wild goose leaped through the windshield during a collision with the car he rode in. V. E. Berggren and Jack Leseur were with him returning from a Chevrolet service meeting near Stromsburg when the goose was strangled in the crash.
The Women’s Foreign Missionary Society will meet Tuesday afternoon next week with Mrs. Mark Timm, and Mrs. F. W. Schroeder will supervise the afternoon’s program.
Osceola High School junior Jeanette Frasier daughter of Mr and Mrs C A Frasier of this city won the vocal division with I Passed By Your Window and the interpretive reading contest at the Hastings annual debate tournament. She previously won the same event last year while competing there. She did not place in extemporaneous speaking.
Jimmie Malek celebrated his sixth birthday with candy and gum for the kindergarten class as his mother and sister visited. A Swedish program by the Swede Home Choir is set for Sunday evening March 25 at 7 30 at the church. Vivian Halleck will perform piano solos and readings along with songs duets and solos. An offering will be lifted and all are invited.
The Omaha Bee News advertises a special trial offer for ten weeks of the American Weekly Magazine at the price of one dollar. The offer applies to rural routes only and has a limited time.
Four members were chosen in each of nine precincts including Osceola Stormsburg Hackberry Clear Creek Platte Pleasant Home Valley Island Canada. On Wednesday the 36 precinct members organized to appraise contracted acres and begin farm visits to inspect fields under contract.
The Literature Department discussed Traffic in Arms with paper by Mrs. Headland. Jas Inness reelected leader and W H Clark secretary. Music and Home Economics departments held sessions with talks on sewing crafts and modern bathrooms. Officers elected H J Tex president and C R Collins secretary treasurer. Physical Education met with Edith Gray on stretching. Drama did not meet.
The third district veterinarians gathered Friday evening at the Rapp Hotel to discuss Undulant Fever Infectious Abortion Tuberculosis Hog Cholera Control and Novel Ill Infection. Attendees included Drs. A Drach J Ray A Francis G Leenerta H Groetke J Sprague D Trump R Gillmor A Lott W Norden P Herser H Peterson M Strong F H Oberg and C R Collins from Omaha Lincoln Humphrey Columbus David City Utica Ulysses Gresham Osceola and other locales.
Visiting minister Rev W Hendrickson and his son Neal stay with daughter Mrs Lester McCormick for a week. Supt Gilbert preached three sermons on Sunday. A baby girl was born to Mr and Mrs Frank Shank on March 14. Miss Inez Johnson from Central City is ill at her aunt Mrs Harry Johnson’s home. Several residents attended dinners and trips, with a Kitchen Shower planned for Mrs Lawrence Creemen at the Community Hall.
Osceola joins an eight team Central Nebraska League with Stromsburg Silver Creek Central City Fullerton Palmer Archer and Genoa. Shelby will not field a team this year freeing players for Osceola. A single salaried player per team and an umpire crew are planned with a community club meeting reviewing the plan.
Walter Tolman state agent in animal husbandry clubs to meet Polk county 4-H agriculture club leaders at the courthouse Saturday March 14 at 2 pm F B Kelly agricultural agent announced today All leaders of last year clubs and prospective leaders of 1934 clubs invited to attend.

St Andrews area residents attend Harmony Club gathering and play practice while visiting relatives in Columbus Prague and Bellwood. Attendees include Miss Opal Olson Stromsburg Miss Agatha Sylvester Clarene Messing and guests Miss Lucy Cockson Mr and Mrs Paul Rinke Miss Genevieve Zohner Charles Augustine plus Bernt Nebosis and family.

Mrs Lynn Snyder of Cheyenne visited the Peterson home. the Micheners and Pete Beebe traveled to Columbus. Mrs Rolly Blair hosted the Hope Circle. DeLoss Buchholz and Amelia Carlson visited from Osceola and Stromsburg. the Benda and Amelia of Fremont visited Shelby. Arthur Buchholz and sons visited Osceola. Mrs A L Scholz recovered from surgery at St Marys in Columbus. Mrs Herman Schlacher of Cincinnati traveled via Chicago after two months in Shelby. Father Schlacher accompanied his mother to Omaha. Mrs Henry Burritt visited in Shelby. Anton Heimer brought home his wife from St Marys. Mrs Hartman of Osceola stays with the Heimer family. Louise and Pauline Urban of Chicago, summoned by their mother’s death, remained briefly before returning home with Oswald Alt.
Sunday School attendance dipped last Sunday as the church aims to boost participation next Sunday. A junior department opening worship, a surprise during the 11 o clock service, Missions Night activities, a playlet Miss Van Winkle Wakes Up, a China relief tableau, a choir concert, and a pastor's letter from Rev. W L Austin highlight the evening program led by Mrs Hulquest Brooks and Maxine with W H Wright as pastor.
Mrs R M McDonald, Mrs Clyde Smith, Mrs F E Klein and Mrs W E B Thompson entertained at a bridge luncheon last Thursday afternoon at the Rapp Hotel. Sixteen tables were set. First prize went to Mrs William Grossnicklaus, second high score prize to Mrs Henry Tex, and the draw prize to Mrs George Inness.
Sarah E. Reed born February 22 1849 in Salt Lake City Utah died March 16 1934 at her Grand Island Nebraska home aged 85 years 23 days She married Irvin D Reed on February 26 1866 and lived as a pioneer in Rawlins County Kansas later farming at Curtis Gothenburg Osceola and Grand Island Funeral services were held in Grand Island and she rests in Osceola Cemetery She was a Seventh Day Adventist for 35 years and worked as a practical nurse with 16 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren noted
The Polk County Corn Hog Control Association will distribute free farm record books to each member at precinct meetings. Members should bring beginning inventory records. experienced keepers will assist. Agricultural Agent Kelly notes 1000 contract signers want continued records to avoid past two years of uncertain hog sales.
Emergency crop loan applicants should first contact the county committee as outlined by the Farm Credit Administration and Production Credit Corporation. The Osceola area committees are Philip Wieseman, Charles Timm, and Mark Timm. Forms and assistance are available at the Agricultural Agent’s Office at the Court House in Osceola.
Mr and Mrs Ted White announce the birth of a baby girl at Osceola Hospital on Tuesday morning March 20. Mrs White was Miss Helen Peterson. Mrs John Fillman had an operation at Osceola Hospital Thursday morning performed by Dr Kennedy of Omaha and Dr R L Schroeder. Ferne Lucille Wieseman ten year old daughter of Mr and Mrs George Wieseman underwent an appendicitis operation by Dr R L Schroeder on Monday morning. August Carlson, formerly living near Swede Home, is a patient at Osceola Hospital attended by Dr R L Schroeder for injuries from a fall last Friday night. He sustained a broken shoulder blade and minor injuries.
