The Polk County spelling contest at Osceola Annie Jeffrey Elementary named eight winners from 5th to 8th grades. Mrs Merklinger 73 Dies in Beatrice Hospital
Henry Merklinger 73 of Plymouth passed away at 7 p.m. Saturday at a Beatrice hospital after entering at 3 p.m. Services were held Wednesday afternoon at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Plymouth. Survived by husband, three sons Rev Donald Grummert of Minneapolis Ralph Merklinger of Sioux City George Merklinger of Holland and daughter Mrs Mervin Stromberg of Osceola plus 13 grandchildren.

The second school caucus held Friday March 7 at City Hall nominated Lillian McDonald and Everette Smith for two open School Board of District 19 seats. A run-off vote 30 to 8 chose McDonald to replace Dr Don Evans who withdrew. Election bets show two women may join the board.

Osceola volunteers led by Everette Smith Cedric Fineey and Lee Schroeder attended a safety clinic in Columbus on handling anhydrous ammonia.
