Death of Joseph E. Marquis updates Polk County roots

Word reached from Leavenworth Kansas that Joseph E. Marquis died last Thursday March 9 at his daughter’s home. He leaves eight children including W J Marquis of Stromsburg and a sister Mrs J N Hurd near York. An early Polk County settler he came in 1871 later moving to Boyd County White Plains Missouri and retains property there. The remains were taken to Newton Iowa for interment.

Death of Frank Salisbury prompts tributes from home county

Keene Ludden received a telegram announcing the death of his brother in law Frank Salisbury at Los Angeles. Salisbury, an old Butler County settler with land interests in Butler and Seward counties, is survived by his widow and two daughters Mrs Sperry of Gresham and another survivor. One son died in California over two years ago. Salisbury previously visited Osceola and the Ludden home.

Death of Mrs. Bertha Barrett in Lincoln Hospital

Mrs Bertha Barrett formerly Miss Berthe Pyle died at Lincoln hospital Thursday night after an operation for stomach trouble that she had suffered from for years. Relatives in Benedict report her sister is Mrs Dr F W Karrer.
