Polk county farmers rapid sign up for the 1939 Agricultural Conservation program totals 933 with about 60 percent of intent sheets in. The groom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alec Adelson of near Polk, is High Prairie graduate, studied at Luther College, and has been farming. The couple plan a farm home near Polk after a trip to Omaha.

Obituary: Mrs. Franklin A Pierce of Wisner
Mrs. Ira Mae Campbell Pierce was born September 16, 1889 in Madrid Nebraska to George Campbell. She married Franklin Andrew Pierce in 1907 and lived on a Wisner farm from 1916 until February 1939. She died March 5 at age 49 5 17 after a heart attack at her sister’s Osceola home. Survived by six children three grandchildren two sisters one brother and two step sisters. funeral in Osceola Methodist Church with Rev. Albert C. Monkman officiating. Interment Clarks cemetery.

Mrs P B Campbell and Mrs Roy Horst represented the St Richard Farley Chapter at the state D A R conference in Columbus lasting Monday to Wednesday. Other local attendees included Mrs Dewey Sigler and Mrs Raymond Kepner. Mrs Henry M Robert spoke Monday evening. Robert delivered dedication address for Platte Fork Ferry Monument Tuesday afternoon. Osceola Edges Henderson in District Opener at Stromsburg
Osceola and Henderson opened the district tournament at the Stromsburg gym with Henderson barely defeating Osceola by five points 22 to 17. The game featured comebacks and height advantages as Osceola fought until the end. Seniors Dick Anderson Don Schmoker Bud Carman Charles Fischer and Honorary Captain Sid Rutter played in their final game. Henderson won the Class B Tournament by dethroning Stromsburg 32 to 17.

Polk County farmers to receive Pasture-Forage-Livestock program guide
Polk County farmers will soon get a detailed printed circular for the 1939 Pasture-Forage-Livestock program. At least 25 farmers will serve as demonstrators as the plan expands with tests, grazing demonstrations, creep feeding, grass plots, and farm plantings. Special schools led by Agricultural Agent Howard Peterson and Walter Berck will be held across Polk County on March 9, 14, 16 and 20 at local schoolhouses and the courthouse to teach roughage use and feed needs.

Joiner W. Mickey Dies in Montana Rock Slide
Joiner W. Mickey, longtime Osceola resident, died after a rock slide trapped him between a gas shovel cab and engine at an ore dump in Phillipsburg Montana. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church. Surviving relatives include his widow Dora, son Jack, his mother Mrs. Olive Mickey, sister Mrs. Walter Lundgren, and several brothers and sisters in Nebraska Iowa Denver Wyoming and Montana.
