Flag Ceremony Marks Nebraska Birthday and Bicentennial Kickoff
Osceola Nebraska observed the state birthday and USA Bicentennial kickoff on March 1 with a courthouse ceremony led by Ruth Lux and Elaine Rice. A Nebraska flag was donated by the Challengers 4-H Club and raised with the American and Bicentennial flags. Local residents including Albert Ryan attended as did Rev. Sladky and Mayor Monson. A Bicentennial cake was cut, a drawing held, and God Bless America sung.

Osceola High School senior Rachel Bachenberg, daughter of the Truman Bachenbergs, was named a Regent's Scholar at the University of Nebraska. She joins 195 high school seniors awarded the one year scholarship covering resident tuition for the first academic year.

Board Approves Jr High Wrestling and School Upgrades

Osceola Wrestlers Shine In 1974 75 Season Highlights
Osceola finished the season in Lincoln with Dale Runquist at state, went 15-9, and lost a 3-1 decision to Kevin Cleveland before Cleveland forfeited next match. Players earned Most Valuable Wrestler Ray Urban and co-captains Mitch Coffin Mike McMeekin, with several seniors leaving. Team posted mixed dual results and several tournament placements including 2nd at Osceola Invitational and 3rd at St Ed Invitational. Urban led in overall points and most matches wrestled while McMeekin and Smith shared fastest takedown and fastest fall accolades.

Roger King of Silver Creek begins duties as lineman serviceman for Nebraska Public Power District in Osceola. A 1970 Silver Creek graduate, he completed a mechanics course at Nebraska Central Technical College in 1972 and previously worked in York. He and his wife Cynthia and 18 month old son Scott will move to Johnson trailer court this week.
