A committee led by Martin Anderson and others surveyed over a hundred people, nearly all favoring the idea, with two undecided.

Nordlund sues Union Pacific for 50000 damages
E. C. Nordlund of Stromsburg as administrator of Sigfrid Matson’s estate filed a district court suit in Aurora Nebraska seeking 50000 damages from Union Pacific railroad. The action stems from a Ford car collision with a defender’s train near Clarks that killed Matson as an infant.

Death of Peter Nelson noted Polk County pioneer
Peter Nelson 77 a longtime Polk County resident and Stromsburg settler died at his home after a several year decline in health. He was born in Sweden in 1846 came to America in 1870 and homesteaded in Platte County in 1873 with wife Anna S Tolin. Surviving children include Ellen Lind N Levi Nelson Annette Shallberg Amanda Jones Anton Nelson Petrus Nelson Herman Nelson Helena Nelson Hannah Nelson and 18 grandchildren. The funeral was held March 6 in Stromsburg with interment at Swede Home cemetery.

Able and Interesting Lecture on Joan of Arc
A fair crowd gathered at the Auditorium Thursday as Rev. Thos. E. Barr delivered a lecture titled Joan of Arc. Miss Maurine Warrath opened with an organ recital, while Arthur Mickey and Miss Walrath accompanied the talk musically. Barr traced Joan’s rise from peasant girl to commander, her battles and martyrdom, noting extensive study and knowledge. About $35 above expenses was raised for church work.

Charles Brandt born September 25 1832 in Mecklenburg Germany died March 4 1924 aged 91 years 5 months 8 days He came to America in 1865 reaching New York City August 30 and lived in New York until 1885 then moved to Nebraska aside from one year in Texas and two in Kansas he resided in Polk County He remarried July 4 1871 to Mrs Brandt widow of his brother He survived by his wife one daughter Christpher Timm and one stepson William F Brandt eight grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren Funeral services were held at his home conducted by Rev J A Klein.

The Polk County Live Stock Breeders Association will hold a banquet at the Rapp hotel this evening at 6 o'clock. Osceola brings Great American Poet John Q Neihardt to the M E Church on March 17. He spent time with Plains Indians and is known to the Omahas as TaeNugaZhinga the Little Bull Buffalo. He began writing at twelve and studied Greek alone to read Homer and the Greek tragedians. He traveled the Missouri River from Fort Benton in 1908, later writing epics.
