Service for Polk County Farmers

Appointment of local volunteer representatives for 1938 continues to make readily available to Polk County farmers the aid of the Nebraska State Employment Service in hiring farm labor at all seasons of the year without fee charge. Residents approved as volunteer placement representatives are Howard Peterson Osceola Dr. R. L. Peterson Polk Karl M. Thelen Shel y. When local help is not found, farmers may mail requests to the Nebraska State Employment Service in Lincoln. The service will select qualified workers and refer them on the specified date with no hire obligation. final decision rests with the employer.

Fairview Community Notes Round-Up of Visits and Events

Mrs. Howard Deeter and husband visited relatives in Omaha while staying with the Tom Meacham home. Riverside school hosted a Friday get-together with games and lunch. Several local families shared Sunday dinners and honored guests. The Happy Hour Club met at Community Hall and a handkerchief shower was held for Mrs. Helen McKeag before her move. Cemetery Society plans a March 11 meeting with hostesses. Others traveled to Lashton to see relatives and attend a recital at Muse Theatre featuring Neil McCormick. Harvey and McKeag families moved to Osceola area, while the Genoa group relocates to the vacated farm. Ice harvests were completed early in the week after Havens bridge repairs.

Ready for Action Swedish talking picture heads to Osceola

A new Swedish singing and talking film titled Klart till drabbning Ready for Action will be shown at the New Muse Theatre in Osceola via Scandinavian Talking Pictures Inc. It depicts Swedish navy maneuvers with humor and accuracy and has played to packed crowds in Sweden. The program also includes three short subjects The Land and the People In Harbor and Sweden in Words and Pictures.

Hospital Notes From Friday Through Thursday

Dr. Eklund removed tongils on Friday morning for Martin Jones and Gerald Mentink. Miss Louella Crew entered the hospital Monday for medical treatment under Dr. Alliband. Clyde Hastings, a patient of Dr. Eklund, was discharged last Thursday to return home.

Luther League Leads First Sunday Lent Services at Church

Former Osceola Girl Buried in Osceola

Ruth Viola Burgeson born October 13 1916 in Osceola Nebraska died February 19 in Los Angeles at age 21. She leaves mother Mrs Dora Burgeson two sisters and three brothers and a nephew. Ruth moved to Los Angeles a year ago and became engaged to Roy Williams. They were en route to Las Vegas Nevada for their wedding when an automobile crash fatally wounded her. Funeral services were held at the Lutheran Church and burial followed in Osceola cemetery.

Four Civil Trials Set for Osceola Court Term
