District 19 Board approves lunch price hike and new hires
The District 19 Board met June 13 at the junior-senior high school. Lunch prices for 1977-78 rise to 60 cents for grades 1-6, 70 cents for grades 7-12, and 85 cents for adults. Two teachers, Ruth Ann Culton and Alan Strong, will join the staff this fall, completing the faculty. Opening day for the new school year is August 29 with tuition unchanged besides transportation.

Lucille Alt of Shelby was elected president at the June 20 Polk County Association For Retarded Citizens meeting held at Stromsburg Methodist Church. Mr and Mrs Robert Nelson of Freeport New York improved their Polk area farm with a parallel terrace system. Soil Conservation Service mapped the area and Upper Big Blue NRD agreed cost share. Construction finished June 16 and operator Paul Anderson planted immediately. The system aims to reduce erosion preserve fertilizer and simplify farming.

Wieseman Sixth at Fremont in Midwestern AAU Decathlon
Lyndon Wieseman competed at the Fremont Track Club in the Midwestern AAU Decathlon and placed sixth in his division. He won the shot put and set a lifetime best in the quarter mile, but an back injury in pole vault dropped him to sixth after seven events. He recovered for the javelin and mile run but could not match his best in those events.
