Fire siren signals and memorial fund noted

After Sundays storm the town clarifies siren signals for emergencies. Tornado requires a straight blast while other dangers use rising and falling tones. An all clear is a short blast. A memorial fund for Lois Simpson is set at Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Hospital, with donations due by August 1 to buy patient equipment.

Osceola Band earns second at Nebraskaland Parade

Osceola Bulldog Band won second place in North Platte Nebraskaland Parade with Mitchell taking first and Nelson band placing third among eleven bands. A front page color photo appeared in the June 20 Telegram.

Scouts Hold Summer Story Hour At Osceola Library

About 13 children aged four to eight joined the Osceola Public Library Summer Story Hour from June 16 to 20. Osceola Cadette Girl Scouts and former Cadettes led each two hour session, with Jackie Smith and others directing readings, plus providing lunch and outdoor recess each morning.

Low rent housing applications sought in Osceola area

The Osceola Housing Authority requests interest from seniors and near seniors for 62 plus occupancy units. Proposed 1 or 2 bedroom apartments include heat, lights, water, refrigerator, and stove with rent around 30 to 45 dollars monthly. Applicants must meet age and income limits and keep rents current.

Plane Crash Injures Three Near Laramie

A single engine Cessna 170 crash landed 15 miles northwest of Laramie injuring three Colorado travelers. Pilot Ken Nichols of Boulder Fire Department and passengers Mr. and Mrs. Brian Lewis were found Saturday and rushed to a Laramie hospital. The plane departed Alliance Nebraska about 8 40 p m Friday en route to Boulder and disappeared.

Osceola Defeats David City in Adjusted Baseball Schedule

Osceola beat David City 8 to 12 in a Friday night game after Lindsay left the Central Nebraska League. The David City lineup featured Mastny and Heffner with Osceola batting Bernt Hegi and Grossnicklaus. The next game is Sunday June 29 at 8 15 p.m. in Cedar Rapids.

National Appaloosa Show Slated for June 29 at Polk County Fair

The Nebr. Aproved Appaloosa Horse Show will be held Sunday, June 29, at the Polk Co. fair grounds with entries from across Nebraska and several out of state. The all day event begins 8:30 a.m. with Halter Classes and 1:00 p.m. for Performance Classes including Cutting, Calf Roping, Heading and Heeling. Competition is horse against horse with no time watch. Admission is free. rider fees are $6 per class. Judge Buck Johnston of Illinois and announcer Ned Theise of Avoca, Iowa. A lunch stand will operate all day.
