Kosch Awarded Army Commendation Medal for Vietnam Service

Fire Marshal Addresses Nurses Aide Class

Harley J. Minnier Deputy State Fire Marshal from Central City presented a program at the Good Samaritan Center for the Geriatric Nurses Aide Course. He spoke to afternoon and evening sessions on fire prevention including patient evacuation, fighting fires and operation of common extinguishers.

Gresham Beats Osceola Legion Teams In Doubleheader

Gresham defeated Osceola 7 to 6 in the first game as Osceola led until a third inning rally by Gresham. Osceola’s midget team lost 8 to 2 in the second game after Gresham scored six runs in the fourth. Osceola pitchers were Nelson and Larson in the first game and Peterson, Girard, Neujahr, and Peterson in the second. The teams travel to Shelby for a Sunday June 22 doubleheader at 7:00 p.m.

Local man among those wounded at Rising City

Keith Cook of Osceola was among six shot last Wednesday at the Farmers Co op Grain Elevator in Rising City. He moved from Bloomfield to Osceola in June and was wounded in both arms while seeking cover as Irvin Ostrander opened fire. The Cook family includes four children Tammy Terri Tracy and Doug.

Stromsburg Readies Swedish Festival with Parades and Feasts

Stromsburg Nebraska prepares its annual Swedish Festival Friday and Saturday June 20 and 21. The program includes two parades, a chicken barbecue, smorgasbord, kiddies and pets parade, Klipper Kords concert, Swedish food stalls, a cook-out and horseshoe contest, and dances each evening. Visitors from across the state and from Sweden are welcome to the 1969 event in Stromsburg.

Rial Brazee Rites Held in Shelby After Stroke

Rial Brazee of Fort Collins Colorado died after a Sunday stroke. Services were held at the United Methodist Church in Shelby with burial in Shelby Cemetery. Surviving are his wife three daughters eight grandchildren a brother Harry and a sister Mrs Ben Zedicher of Osceola.

Osceola Band Plans North Platte Parade Trip

The Osceola Bulldog band will depart around 7:00 a.m. on two school buses led by Leonard Mrkvicka and Charles Kucera for North Platte to join the Nebraska land Parade. They will lunch at Cody Park at noon with Osceola boosters and attend the rodeo show at 8:00 p.m. Andy Devine receives the Buffalo Bill Award. Buses return to Osceola after the rodeo, with arrival expected in the early hours of Friday.

Sunday Horse Show Rescheduled to June 22

The Goldenrod Saddle Club postponed Sundays Horse Show to June 22 due to a muddy arena from prior rains. The Jr Show begins at 10 a.m. with Grand Entry at 12:30 p.m. Admission is 50 cents and a lunch stand will operate all day at the fairgrounds.

Osceola Girls Softball Defeats Columbus 38 12

The Osceola junior team remained undefeated by routing Columbus Y in Columbus with balanced hitting and base running. The senior team trailed much of the game but the seven innings ended 16 all before Columbus won 17 16 in extras. Osceola hosts Columbus D and L on June 23 with two games at 7:00 and 8:00.

Miss Anita Peterson of Osceola is among twenty seven Midland College students on the dean's list for the second semester of 1968 69 with straight A's. The 27 are part of 115 honored for their academic achievement as students must reach a 3 50 GPA or higher. Anita is the daughter of the Milton Petersons.

Dick Smiths Daughter to Spend Summer in Sweden

Barbara Smith the eleven year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Richard Smith of Knoxville Tennessee has been chosen to attend a Children’s International Village CISV in Malmo Sweden during July and August. She was selected from 90 Knoxville area applicants as one of four children plus a leader to participate in the world wide youth program founded in 1951. The delegation will depart from New York on July 12, fly to Amsterdam then to Malmo and return about mid August.
