Dr Subhash Sood departs Polk County Clinic for Kentucky residency

Dr Sood leaves the Polk County Clinic to pursue a three year psychiatry residency at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. He praises the hospital staff and Dr Davis, hopes to return to Nebraska, and notes a lab blood gas procedure as a possible improvement. Dr Rikarr to join the clinic mid July amid a separate nighttime shooting incident near Highway 92.

Committee forms to plan pollution controls in Big Blue basin

Bruce Anderson leads a 25 member Policy Advisory Committee formed under PL 92 500 Section 208 to draft local non point source pollution plans for the Upper and Lower Big Blue River Basins in Nebraska. The group will meet three times yearly over two and a half years, include many local officials, and set priorities and regulatory programs. A separate note announces Osceola United Methodist Women branch and book review on June 25.

Pony Express 76 Relay Arrives Near Osceola June 29

The Pony Express 76 relay arrives at mile post 387 on Highway 92 west of Osceola on Tuesday around 5:00 am to exchange saddlebags with Jim Marak aboard an Appaloosa. The event spans 11 states in 12 days with a July 4 mail handover at Valley Forge Post Office.

Osceola Leads CN League With Close Win Over Garland

Osceola remained atop the Central Nebraska League after a 12-11 victory over Garland last Wednesday in Garland. Prokop Roehrs and Nelson led Osceola while Schaefer Wilber and Wilkins contributed in the win as Osceola improved to 7-3 in CN Division after an 8-6 win over Staplehurst Sunday. Also noted are CN standings with Columbus 5-4 Schuyler 3-3 Wahoo 3-2 Silver Creek 4-5 and upcoming games. The Pony team split, winning 9-7 at Benedict Monday and losing to Polk Thursday amid gusty winds and uneven infield.

Osceola Park Hosts Annual Day Camp

Osceola Park hosted a week of Girl Scout day camp with 20 girls, six leaders, and three troops from Osceola Shelby and a combined Junior troop. Brownies hiked crafted necklaces cooked over fires and made terrariums while Juniors earned badges and improved openfire cooking skills under director Mrs. Kenneth Kuhnel and nurses Mrs. Winard Augustin and Mrs. Alan Logan.

Coover Dam Near Polk Completed With NRD Support

The Coover road dam south of Highway 92 was completed June 11 with a $40,000 Cen tral Platte NRD contract cost shared by Polk County and the NRD. The project includes an asphalted road in 1977 and a five acre lake to recharge groundwater, help wildlife, and reduce Platte River flood damage. Paul Coover and Willis Waller donated easements for water storage and dam construction.

Death Notice Walter Harbour Dies After Heart Attack

Walter Harbour, 70, well known for baseball in the community, died suddenly Saturday afternoon June 19 after a heart attack while in Stromsburg for the Swedish Festival. Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church in Stromsburg on Tuesday June 22 conducted by Rev. Robert Holbrook. He is survived by his wife Hazel and two daughters Maxine and Doris.
