The York Evangelical United Bsethren church plans a 1400 dollar annual pledge to York College if the denomination keeps the college operating in York. The church also weighs long range plans to acknowledge its role in training Christian students for local churches.
Plans outline dedication and open house for the new addition to Lexington Community Hospital likely mid July. Construction is nearly finished with equipment to be installed as rooms become ready.
Blair Lumber and Grain Co. reports a mysterious gift labeled This is do your company. A Lump sum of 50 dollars plus five twenty dollar bills arrived from Council Bluffs with no return address or identifying mark. The firm cannot determine who owes 150 dollars or what error in the audit would justify this credit. The money is placed on a new ledger sheet titled Our Conscience Fund and will remain until clues emerge.
The U S Weather Bureau based in Norfolk will telephone a disaster committee member in Albion with alerts. Key personnel and Albion town areas will receive calls and line alerts. A three minute wartime siren will broadcast the warning to Albion and nearby towns.
The Dakota County Star reports additions to both South Sioux grain elevators will boost area storage to over a million bushels and position the region among Nebraska's largest grain storage centers. After completion the capacity will reach 1,288,000 bushels.
The Elba school plans a hot lunch program requiring about 2000 dollars to equip a kitchen and purchase equipment. About 20 students of school age would benefit from the program as proposed.
The annual Buffalo Bill Rodeo Parade on Friday morning drew thousands along the streets to see floats. A record 110 entries competed in the event, reported by the North Platte Tribune Shopper.

The state highway department reports extensive construction near the Highway 22 and Wallace Creek junction east of Scotia. A new 80 foot bridge will be built and the roadway straightened to ease flooding in the normally swollen creek.

In Share the Fun Nifty Needle Club Shelby won first with a puppet skit Robin and Dobbin and Merry Mixers second with Man ners Matter Much. These clubs are eligible to represent Polk County in the District Share The Fun contest on July 36.

Columbus resident Lee Snodgrass was hospitalized after a Saturday night auto accident on the Shelby Gresham road. His car struck a cement bridge abutment on the way from a demonstration in Gresham, leaving him with five broken ribs and multiple injuries.

The group celebrated birthdays and a 36th wedding anniversary with cakes and planned to meet next year in Madison Nebraska. Mrs Willard Bush was elected president for another year.
Polk County reports $670,600 in Series E and H Savings Bond sales for the first five months, reaching 109.4 percent of its 1954 county quota. Nebraska total sales reach $63,629,844, or 67.4 percent of the statewide quota, with praise from state chair Wade R. Martin.

Army private first class Roger W. Werner of Polk is serving in Japan with the 187th Regimental Combat Team. The unit, famed for leaps into Korea and action with UN divisions, is part of the U S security force in Japan. Werner joined in June 1953 and has earned the Combat Infantryman Badge Parachutist Badge and UN and Korean Service Ribbons.
