Death of Civil War veteran Foun G Rhodes at Burkett Home
Foun G Rhodes died Friday morning near Burkett after a long illness. Born July 18 1837 in St Lawrence County he served in the 3rd Cavalry under Buell and Grant, fought at Shiloh and earned a crushed face and broken ribs in battle. He lived in Nebraska and Iowa before settling in Osceola with eight children, five surviving. Military funeral services were held with honors conducted by Rev. E M Reed.

Glenn S. Ray, Osceola Nebraska, graduated in 1915, has been named assistant professor of agronomy at Idaho Agricultural College in Moscow. He earned a bachelor of science in agronomy and worked on the college farm and in the agronomy department, reflecting strong scholarship and practical experience. He will begin as a specialist, with high expectations from Colorado Agricultural College and Idaho colleagues. His appointment was announced this morning. He is from Osceola, Neb.

Elmer Webster of Osceola accompanied by his family visited Sunday and Mrs Ed Young sister of Mrs Webster stayed for a visit. Miss Mary Squier left for Hillsdale Michigan to visit relatives and will be away about two months. Mrs Mildred D Brian returned from Columbus and next week will appear in the Land office as a part owner and begin familiar work. Miss Lucile Davis married Dr Edgar Manning at Schuyler and they plan to settle in Colorado soon. C J Garrig of Columbus bought cattle thought to be a carload from Schuster Bros in Polk County but found they would fill a car and a half. The death of George W Clutter, longtime resident of Silver Creek, occurred Sunday June 13 after natural causes. neighbors aided him as he declined. A stretcher was provided to him shortly before his passing.

The Busy Bee holds services as usual next Sunday in English at the home of Mr and Mrs Gust Boden northwest of the city. On Thursday the Aid Society plans a church social at 8 p m with ice cream and cake after a short program. A collection for missions will be taken.
