The Osceola Swimming Pool welcomes the public next Sunday with free entry and no charge all day. The Community Club funded improvements including a new 45 ft slide a wave feature a bucking elephant and a water swing plus updated bath house seating and parking to avoid park congestion. The Osceola band will perform in the opening day festivities inviting residents to bring swimsuits picnics and families.
A Shelby fire at the C. W. Moon store destroyed fur stock and damaged dry goods in a two story brick block owned by I. Q. Rathbun. Discovered around 1 am by Harold Taddiken, the blaze heavily damaged dry goods with early estimates at 20,000 dollars. The grocery stock suffered water and smoke damage. insurance covered the loss.
Westside notes show Mr and Mrs Victor Newman of York and others visiting C. O. Fredrickson home. Clarks team beats Swede Home 12 to 8 at High Prairie. Central City and Lincoln workers also featured in weekend activity and upcoming Bridge day clash.
The Women’s Missionary Society of Stromsburg District holds its annual convention June 26 at Osceola Lutheran Church. Events include a 10 A M program and business meeting, noon dinner, 2 P M programs by Junior Mission Bands and Young Women, and an 8 P M memorial service for Dr Friberg and Rev Lindell with Revs Tue and Lundeen as speakers. Represented groups include Osceola, Swede Home, Stromsburg, Genia, York, Newman Grove 2nd Saint Salem Church at St Edwards.
L Norvall Pearce and son John traveled from Englewood Colorado to visit Mr and Mrs D K Pearce and sister Flora Fentress. They plan to stay a week.
Strewn with names and trips, Stromsburg residents report visits from L N Pearce and John from Englewood to Osceola. families head to Lincoln and St Louis. locals tour York and Central City. Myrberg and Skoog relatives settle back in Stromsburg. fishing trips and bridge lunches mark a busy period.
Mr. and Mrs. William Fetters marked 65 years of marriage on Thursday June 12 with a reception at their East Stromsburg home attended by over 100 friends. Mr. Fetters, 85, is a Civil War veteran honored by a visit from the local American Legion post and by many Stromsburg organizations sending representatives.
Mr and Mrs D K Pearce and son Norvall visited Hastings relatives. Mrs S P Johnson traveled to Kearney to see her mother moved from Hastings hospital to Kearney home, slight improvement reported. Bridal shower for Miss Berniece McCormick at the Berck home with gifts and 45 guests. Les Joyeuse Quatorze Bridge Club held at Mathezon home with 16 guests and prizes awarded.
A May agricultural report notes Nebraska wheat acreage at about 3.55 million acres, up from 3.354 million last year, with winter wheat in excellent shape and spring rains boosting prospects. The state ranks second in winter wheat production. 1929 output reached 53,664,009 bushels, value about 53,127,362 dollars to growers. If favorable conditions continue, 1930 could show a further large increase, with harvest expected in early July.
The remains of John Barleycorn including kegs bottles and liquid dynamite were dumped by county authorities aided by Revs Han del Collier Paul Melin and Councilman J A C Johnston under Sheriff VanHoosen. A photographer recorded the destruction as raids and arrests yielded the liquor.
St Pauls Lutheran Church announces Harmony Society meetings at Nina Johnsons home on Thursday. Friday noon gathers for annual Buckley Park picnic with basket dinners and offerings for ice cream. Sunday services include Sunday School Bible classes at 10, English worship at 11, and a Gustavus Adolphus College Quartette program at 8 with offerings. A lawn social with homemade ice cream is set for Tuesday evening.
About twenty five Garden Club members journeyed to York on Monday evening for a tour of May's greenhouse and grounds. Mr. May shared time and information generously making the visit instructive and enjoyable. Courtesies were appreciated and a picnic lunch in the park followed.
Miss Mildred Anderson of Omaha Mrs A N Donelson of Stromsburg and Claus H Anderson of Osceola left Tuesday for Escanaba Michigan to attend the marriage of Melford Anderson formerly of Osceola now of Chicago to Miss Sineah Lindale of Escanaba The wedding is set for Tuesday June 24 and marks the culmination of a romance that began at Augustana College where both were students.
Polk reports a busy period with Grand Island Association start Monday and closing Tuesday. Numerous York Lincoln and Fremont visitors drop by for conventions and visits. summer plans include trips to Arcadia Bridgeport and Washington DC. The Baptist Missionaries, Lutheran funeral for Mrs. Voght, and Vacation Bible School also feature in community life.

Out of town guests included Mrs Kumpf and Wilma of Huron South Dakota and Mrs Annie Beckmeyer of Portland Oregon. The bride formerly ran a beauty parlor in Osceola and later worked in Los Angeles. The groom resides in Huron South Dakota where he is a plumber. The couple left for their new home Monday morning.
District No. 5 reports Alfred Grossnicklaus and spouse visiting Grand Island and Central City for a Sunday wedding. Walter Wieseman Geo Wieseman and families joined a dinner at Ben McCormick’s for Archie Kumpf. Other visits include Earl Bond at Gresham and Camp Fire Girls activities with Irene Grossnicklaus in Crete.
Mrs. Susan Whaley aged 78, longtime Osceola resident, died suddenly at her home Wednesday morning after suffering a heart attack last April. Her daughter Bridgeland of Salt Lake City had been with her the past few months. funeral arrangements were not yet made.
A 19 year old man identifying as Oleg Barber from South Sioux City attempted to steal a Buick from Nielsen Chevrolet in Sunday morning drama. Sheriff Van Hoosen and deputies pursued into rough fields near Rising City before Barber surrendered. He faced a district court bond set at 1000 dollars and will be checked for warrants elsewhere.
Three Cook sisters with their brother in law Abe Toline were returning from lunch when runaway horses frightened by circling colts capsized the wagon. Elaine nine fractured a wrist and cut hands and face. Pauline twelve suffered a severe scalp gash and other injuries. Madeline fourteen escaped with bruises.
The Country Club district met at Erma Johnson’s home on June 6 with eleven members present. They planned a July 4 picnic and shared a lunch. Cruz gatherings included visits from relatives and neighbors, W.C.T.U. Flower Mission activities, and local travel to York and Lincoln.
