Calves Should Grow Thrifty From Birth Says University
The University dairy department urges keeping calves in thrifty condition from birth to prevent stunting. Scours, often due to dirty pails, overfeeding, spoiled milk, or milk at wrong temperatures, can be fought with clean pails, proper milk temperature, and careful feeding. Suggested rations progress 10 pounds per 100 pounds body weight, then 5 and 2 1/4 pounds per 100 pounds.

Nebraska Faces Severe Winter Wheat Losses and Seed Shortage
More than 90 percent of Nebraska winter wheat has winter killed. The Nebraska State Council of Defense reports acreage surviving is about 375,000 acres, roughly 10 percent of last fall's sowing, with yields estimated at five to six million bushels. The council urges counties to meet next fall seed requirements before shipping wheat away and to plant a full normal wheat acreage this fall. County defense councils, farmers, bankers, clubs, railroads and citizens must unite to meet the demand.
