Polk County Boy Serves Uncle Sam Navy to Marines
Harold L Kosch son of Mr and Mrs Alois Kosch enlisted in the Navy in September 1942 and earned corpsman training at Great Lakes. He joined the Marines in January 1943, trained at Camp Elliott San Diego and left for service in late May. A Shelby high school graduate in 1940 he worked on his father's farm before enlisting.

Golden Wedding Anniversary Observed in Osceola
Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Branting of Osceola marked their 50th wedding anniversary on Tuesday June 1. Family gathered for dinner and an open house the following day with relatives from Omaha Casper Wyoming Hordville Stromsburg and Osceola. The couple married June 1 1893 at Swede Home and have spent their married life in Polk County.

Severe Storm Damages Farms in Polk County
A severe storm last Wednesday night brought heavy wind, rain, and hail across Polk County. Farm buildings and gardens suffered damage while Mrs. Henry Kumpf near Shelby sustained a painful injury from a door slammed by the strong gusts. The following week brought more soaking rains.

Funeral held for Roland Mills in Bartlettsville
Roland Mills aged 73 died Monday at his home in Bartlettsville Oklahoma after a period of illness. He moved from Osceola where he had lived many years and was married to Gusta Timm. Survived by widow two sons Frederick and Ivan and four grandchildren burial took place in Osceola cemetery.
