June Weddings Shine at Silver Creek and Osceola Churches

Two local weddings highlighted the week. Miss Berniece Kershaw and Myron W. Jones wed at Congregational Church in Silver Creek in a formal ceremony with family present. C. Lester Anderson and Miss Barbara Gray united at Osceola’s church in a high mass, followed by a reception and dance.

Matrimony Unites Alvana Morgan and Army Officer Jimmie Ward

Sunday afternoon at 2 30 Miss Alvana Morgan daughter of Mr and Mrs George W Morgan wed Jimmie Ward an Army officer from Houston Texas in the Lutheran Church Rev Oberg officiated The ceremony featured nuptial music by Mrs Egnar Hultman and singing by Mrs Otto Olson The bride wore white satin and brussel lace with a long train and veil and carried white roses Attendants included Fern Bitterbush DeEtte Hedlund and Berniece Kelly The groom wore full Army dress and the couple plan a San Antonio honeymoon then a September departure for the Hawaiian Islands A 225 guest reception followed at the church basement Portsmouth Nebr area guests attended including families from Spalding Omaha and Fremont

Nelson Bond Wedding Ties Osceola to Gresham

The marriage of Janet Nelson and Floyd Bond occurred at the Presbyterian church in Gresham Sunday morning with Rev. O B Proett officiating. The groom is a brother of Mrs. Paul Englehardt and both families are known in the Osceola area with ties to Claude Bond and his wife.

Prenuptial Shower for Berniece Kershew at Silver Creek

Miss Berniece Kershew of Silver Creek attended a prenuptial shower at Mrs. Ronald Sarrow’s home on May 24. Marjorie Sarrow assisted. sixteen guests played games and guessing contests. Blue and white decor highlighted favors. A blue bird theme indicated gift locations. A two course luncheon concluded the event.

Osceola prepares to open its swimming pool and bath-house on June 15 with water warming in days. Glenn DeLand leads pool operations with Robert Mills assisting. season tickets remain $2.50 for adults and $1.50 for children.

Family Reunion at Osceola Park Draws 32 Attendees

The Ben McCormick family held a Sunday reunion and picnic in Osceola park with 32 people in attendance. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Chester Johnson of Whittier California, Mrs. Berniece Blackmar of Bakersfield California, Mr. and Mrs. H Himek and son of Columbus, and several Wieseman and McCormick relatives from Omaha and local areas.

Daily Vacation Bible School Achievement Day Program

The Co-Operative Bible School will present its work for inspection and approval Friday evening at 8 00 P M. The public is invited. The Methodist and Presbyterian Churches cooperated in this experience. About 100 children participated. A free will offering will be taken to cover expenses.

Osceola Garden Club members met Monday evening in Stromsburg at the Westenius home garden. The program centered on birds with reports, poems by Mrs. Flossie Deeds, and a bird-name jumble contest won by Mrs. Alvin Westenius. A social hour and lunch followed.

Tonsil Procedures and Dismissals at Osceola Hospital

Miss Amy Gissler had her tonsils removed at the hospital on Wednesday morning. The three year old Pauline Anderson of Silver Creek was a medical patient for several days last week. Discharged were Mrs. Maurice Richards and infant Marlene Ruth, DeLoss Buchholz, and Mrs. Winter Umshler. Dick Mills had a tonsil operation last Thursday. Fred Calkins Sr. was admitted last Friday as a medical patient.

The Greatest of These Children’s Day Service

A Children’s Day service titled The Greatest of These will be given at the Presbyterian Church next Sunday morning at all o’clock. A pageant honors love and friendliness as life rules. The I C C F and Rebekah Lodges hold a memorial service Sunday June 10 at 4 00 in the lodge halls.

Anniversary Homecoming of District 51 Draws Large Crowd

About 250 attendees marked the 63rd anniversary homecoming of Polk County District 51 near Stromsburg on June 3. Former teachers, pupils and locals heard speakers including Mrs. Dana Little, Olaf Alfred, and I D Huston, with a history of the district and its schools recounted. A three-tier cake with 63 candles honored Mrs. Little, the district’s first teacher.

Chicago correspondent C E Haterius speaks on Denmark Sweden Norway Finland with cooperatives, fjords and cities as slides and film. His wife Mrs Haterius assists in folk costumes and the program includes Sweden King Gustav’s 80th birthday and Mr G playing tennis.
