Wallace McKeag 18 son of Harvey McKeag enrolled in the U S Coast Guard December 5 1940 after Osceola high school 1940 graduation. Stationed on the east coast patrolling submarines with a five month spell in Lisbon Portugal he is studying Diesel engineering. In May he was knocked overboard by waves fracturing ankle and heel, back strained. He convalesces at a Portsmouth New Hampshire naval hospital.

Polk County 4 H members attend University of Nebraska Club Week with Rita Bernt placing second in the Girls Room Judging Contest. The Osceola teen also led a first place demonstration team in 1941 at county and state fairs. Arrangements are made to mix grasshopper bait on Tuesdays starting June 9 at the County brick building north of Johnson's Garage in Osceola. Extension Agent Ray L. Cruise says bait costs 20 cents per 80 pound sack and farmers should bring their own sacks. Three mechanical air spreaders will be available to Polk County farmers with potential more days if demand grows.

Summer Kindergarten In Session In Osceola Schools

Lieutenant Oscar G. Hedberg of the Nebraska state patrol, now at North Platte, is ordered to report for active duty June 10 as a commissioned officer. He previously served as a captain in World War I and is a former Osceola resident. Patrol force is shrinking, with ends of the month totaling 54, a drop of 20 from last year, staffing will not be replenished and personnel will be shifted to cover gaps.

Edward M Watts aged 66 years 11 months 11 days died at his Osceola area home after long Polk County life near Fulton Illinois born June 20 1875 son of James and Anna Watts married Nellie Cadwell February 23 1898. Survived by wife five sons ten grandchildren one brother and three sisters. Funeral at the Methodist church Wednesday.

The Happy Homemakers 4-H Club met at Mrs. Edgar Wiselys home. Officers elected include Joanne Wallace president Phyllis Joy vice president Sandra Schumann secretary Janet Kepner and Joan Eklund news reporters. The group split into two divisions Learning To Cook and Meal Planning and Preparation with 25 members present and more expected. This doubles the previous years membership and earns a Victory Seal for the Club Charter. Members from last year received victory pins.
