A Polk County woman Mrs Carl Wieseman won the Grand Prize at the Tri County Flower Show held at Silver Creek. This marks a third straight year a Polk County entry takes the top prize. Mrs Mart Anderson won last year and again this year for an outstanding bouquet. Mrs Elmer Horst took first in the Rose Shrub arrangement. About 400 exhibits featured prizes won by county women.

A Saturday early morning blaze consumed the Nyquist building facing the post office. Koziol Shoe Service suffered total loss of stock and machinery. Firefighters from Osceola and Shelby battled the flames from 2:00 a.m. to about 6:00 a.m. The fire likely started in the shoe shop work room from faulty wiring or a smoldering fire.
The blaze began in the Nyquist building but was kept from spreading to adjacent structures thanks to fire department efforts. No serious injuries occurred. one firefighter sustained a cut head from falling plaster and another a sprained ankle.
The Luther League of St. Pauls Lutheran Church hosts an ice cream social on Friday evening July 31 at 8 p m. on the church lawn. Homemade ice cream cake and coffee will be served and the Osceola band will provide music during the event.

Two Bruning boys David and Roger Wilken and their father Rex Wilken were badly burned when a bottled gas plant exploded in a Osceola basement. The blast lifted the house from its foundation, killed the boys en route to Hebron hospital while the father was treated for severe burns and the mother and daughter escaped with minor injuries.
