Levy Set Soon For Nebr. Property Owners
Nebraska property owners will learn their 1961 state property tax levy soon. The State Board of Equalization will likely set the levy July 31 and certify to 93 counties by August 2. State taxes remain a small part of total bills. local and school taxes dominate. The 1961 levy may rise slightly due to a 0.17 mill Park Levy increase. Fixed state levies total 2.25 mills per $1,000 assessed value, with allocations for Institutional Building Fund, University Medical, Teachers Retirement, Parks, Agricultural Research, and the General Fund. In 1960 the total state levy was 8.43 mills, with the General Fund at 6.35. The General Fund covers about 60 percent of its needs. the rest comes from miscellaneous taxes and receipts.
