New 34 500-volt line serves Shelby from rising City area
Consumers Public Power District completed a 34 500 volt transmission line from Rising City to the Shelby substation at an approximate cost of 105 000 dollars. The line and substation went into service July 14, with crews from York Osceola and Seward checking phasing voltage and loading. Over 33 miles of line were built using 150 poles and 1 250 insulators. The project provides current and future power for Shelby and plans aim to extend to Osceola for improved service and backup power.

Silver Creek to host Strategic Air Command SLFCS
SAC plans a 30 million Survival Low Frequency Communications System with transmitters at Silver Creek and Hawes California to link bomber and missile forces after a nuclear strike. The system, untested and far reaching, will employ atmospheric and man made disturbances to maintain contact with aircraft and sites. About 40 Air Force specialists will operate from Silver Creek once active, near Columbus, Ohio.
