Psychologist Joins Pioneer Mental Health Center Staff

Dr James Grossenbach a clinical psychologist joins the Pioneer Mental Health Center Osceola Mondays to promote community mental health through schools courts and churches. He and his wife Susan have two daughters and will move to York in August.

Osceola Midgets Top Gresham 5-3 In Tough Game

Osceola little league midgets edged Gresham 5 to 3 after four hits and three Gresham errors aided the tally. John Zelasney pitched for Osceola and escaped trouble while Rick Nordstrom and Mark Schott each had two hits. Osceola later lost to Dwight 7 to 5 with Rex Grossnicklaus and Gary Alt homering.

Polk County Fair set for July 27 30 Bicentennial events planned

The 101st Polk County Fair runs July 27 to 30 with Bicentennial Day July 28. Volunteers are sought to demonstrate skills of bygone days and display exhibits in the east and west buildings, including quilt work art and crafts, with ribbons for all participants. NRD Wildlife Habitat Program Seeks 1–10 Acre Sites

Upper Big Blue NRD invites landowners with 1 to 10 acres of hard to farm terrain to enroll in its Wildlife Habitat Improvement Program starting July 1. Contracts run five or ten years. payments range from 25 dollars per acre annually with a 250 dollar bonus for public access to 30 dollars per acre for ten year keeps, plus full fencing costs.

School Board Approves Smolik Certification and Audit Firm

The District 19 Board of Education met on the second Monday and approved Stephen Smolik for a teacher's certificate. It authorized McDermott & Miller of Grand Island to audit district finances. Donations from Boy Scouts and 4 H club were noted. Current lunch rates and 1976-77 tuition were set. Opening date for next term is August 30. Donald Cook named elementary principal.

Community calendar lists events in July including Masons Lions Garden Club Rebekah Lodge and Filibusters Eldena Lindblade. Bicentennial Worship At St Paul Lutheran Church

The 200th anniversary of nationhood on July 4, 1976 shaped a special St Paul Lutheran Church service. Pastor Nordstrom and Mrs. Paul Monson led a blended liturgy with patriotic readings, colonial garb, and hymns honoring liberty and faith. The service included readings from Lincoln and scenes of early America, ending with prayers for the nation.

Demonstration Workshop for Osceola 4-H Members

A Monday workshop at the Methodist Church in Osceola trained 4-H members on judging and demonstrations. Linda Sander outlined Polk County fair procedures with home economics questions and oral reasons. Brenda Paulus assisted, and participants practiced judging with notes allowed. Refreshments were served.
