Polk County Fair to Proceed August 10 11 12
Polk County Fair officials decided Tuesday to hold the annual fair with August 10 11 12 set as dates. A free gate day and night and no grandstand charges will mark this year with exhibits mainly from 4 H clubs and no entry fee. Secretary Louis Hastert says an entertaining program is being prepared amid some planning challenges. Additional items include a grand wedding in Hershey Nebraska with Fern Samuelson and Richard Eitel uniting in marriage at 4 pm Sunday June 28 with a reception and two course luncheon at the bride's home afterward.

Hollis Campain, 27, son of Mr and Mrs Wm Campain, entered service February 18 1942 after graduating Osceola high school in 1933 and farming. He has been stationed at Camp Robinson Fort Leavenworth and New Orleans before deployment to Puerto Rico. 400 attend Polk County 4 H picnic at Osceola with awards and a showing of the 4 H movie Young America.

The Stromsburg District Luther League held its 31st annual convention at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Osceola Friday through Sunday with theme This Is the Victory. Pastor Flora Laureson of Luther College led Bible study on Colossians and delivered talks while Berniece Sward directed a candle light service and choir. officers elected include Berniece Sward president Earl Wall vice president Eleanora Trued secretary and Kermit Branting treasurer.

Mary Sterup Carter dies after life on Nebraska farms
Mary Carter Sterup, born December 17, 1901 near Surprise, Nebraska, died June 24, 1942 in Omaha at 40. The Shelby area resident, wife of Victor Sterup, mother of four, lived on farms near Surprise and Gresham and was active in the Wayland Christian Church and Rebekah Lodge. Funeral services were held at Shelby Methodist Church. The article also honors Polk County farm women, highlighting their roles driving tractors, milking cows, and raising poultry as they support wartime food production and community life.

Chinch Bug Situation Reported in County Fields and Crops
County Extension Agent Ray L Cruise reports chinch bugs found in parts of the county. He expects localized damage to corn and sorghum as grains ripen and are harvested. Chinchugs inhabit small grain fields, especially barley, and can be repelled with a creosote barrier. the Extension Office provides barrier construction guidance and creosote for control at Grasshopper Mixing Plant.
