Annual Service of Christian Unity Hosted by Local Churches

The second annual Service of Christian Unity will be Sunday January 17 at 3 00 PM at First United Methodist Church. The St Paulo Totheran Church choir will sing and all three pastors will take part with Rev Dr Raymond Hain as guest speaker. He leads Sacred Heart Parish Lincoln Nebraska and chairs diocesan priest councils. The event closes with a fellowship coffee hour in the Fellowship Hall.

Osceola Approves Charles Roberts Fire Department Member

Osceola City Council unanimously approves Charles Roberts as a new member of the Osceola Volunteer Fire Department at the January 7 meeting. Mayor Dean Buffington presided at a brief session. The council discussed a six year plan with 1 to 2 funding matches, snow removal priorities, and the purchase of regulatory street signs. A planned meeting with a Cengas planner was noted to assist long term city planning.

Local Scouts Appoint New Adult Members In Osceola Troop

Charles Roberts becomes Assistant Scout Master replacing Gary Conrad who becomes Troop Committee Chairman. Dale Nahrstedt joins as committee member with Scout Master Richard Odgers and Glen Green. Troop will meet Saturday January 16 at the Scout Cabin due to a conference tournament. regular meetings are Mondays at 7 30.

Volunteers Needed at Samaritan Center Craft Group

The Good Samaritan Center seeks volunteers to help run a craft session led by Mrs. Wilhelm Kosch in Shelby each Tuesday afternoon. The March of Dimes campaign for 1991 will be held in Osceola during January 17 to 23. Co chairs Joe Roberts and Richard Odgers announce volunteers are being recruited to canvass door to door with help from Martin Roberts. A free rubella make-up clinic will be held at Jeffrey Elementary School on Friday January 22 from 10 to 10 30 a m. Sponsored in Osceola by Dr Clarence Davis Jr in cooperation with the Nebraska State Dept of Health the event aims to immunize children ages 1 through 11 who have not prior received immunization. Midland Lutheran College at Fremont recognizes 196 students for a 3.5 GPA or higher in the first term of the 1970 71 school year. Sixty earned a 4 0 average including Micrae Branting and Marsha Nyberg Anita Peterson. OHS Superintendent Joins ESU 7 Delegation to Minnesota

Osceola schools superintendent Virgil Bugbee joined educators from ESU 7 and neighboring districts on a three day trip to Minnesota. The group toured Staples and Mound View Schools in St Paul and studied innovations in building use open space teaching and vocational instruction.

Bloodmobile to visit Osceola gym January 25

Osceolans will hear from the Bloodmobile telephone crew this week and next. The Bloodmobile will be in the Osceola gymnasium Monday January 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Chairman Jean Bond says if you are missed by the callers you may contact Mrs. Bond or walk in during the day.

Osceola wrestlers place in Clarks Invitat ional tourney

Osceola Enters National Clean-up Contest and Awards

Osceola enters the National Clean-Up Contest with a scrapbook detailing 1970 clean-up work. Projects include street lights, sewers, curb and guttering, new sign, industrial site, mortuary addition, May city cleanup, grand stand burn repair, brush removal, old houses torn down, and extensive painting. Judging by seven panelists in late January narrows to top 10 in each category, awards presented February 23 in Washington DC. Mayors and delegations invited.
