New County Officials Take Office Today
Visitors to the county courthouse will meet new office holders. John S. Anderson replaces John W. Fillman in the county clerk’s office with Sophia Kresha as deputy and Gertrude Matheson assisting clerk and treasurer duties. LaRoy M. Smith becomes treasurer with Edith Gray as deputy. Tom Reece becomes district court clerk, Olive McBeth new county superintendent, Gunnard Peterson sheriff, and the new county board members Miller Harlees and Carter will organize next Tuesday.

Death of William Mawhor in Shelby Nebraska
Funeral services for William T. Mawhor were held at the Methodist Church in Shelby on Sunday afternoon. He died Thursday at his Shelby home from a stroke on Christmas Day. Born August 16, 1866 in Philadelphia, he moved with his family to Fremont County Iowa before 1894 and later to a farm near Shelby Nebraska. He served as Shelby postmaster for thirteen years and was a member of the Mount Zion Masonic Lodge. Survived by sister Anna Mawhor and nine nieces and nephews. parents and siblings predeceased him.

Osceola Community Club honored Jay Hastings at a Rapp Hotel dinner last Wednesday with about sixty attendees. M. A. Mills served as toastmaster while Mayor W. E. Pierson and Phil Campbell spoke. A. F. Nyquist gave Hastings a pen and pencil set. The Hastingses then headed to Lincoln, address 810 South 12th Street.

Andrew Kropatsch had an appendicitis operation Friday morning at Osceola Hospital performed by Dr. R. L. Schroeder. Mrs. Joe Schott and her son John William were discharged Monday and went home north of Osceola. Dolores Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Miller of Shelby, had a mastoid operation Sunday morning, assisted by Dr. Potter of Omaha and Dr. Schroeder.

Andrew Franklin Heckman born June 16 1866 near Winslow Illinois died December 26 at his Osceola home after months of illness. He moved to Nebraska at age five homesteaded Butler County lived mainly in Butler and Polk Counties with years in Gage County. Survived by widow Alberta Ganer and children Cora Hewitt Hazel Landall Verna Smith Jennings Ruby Schernikau George and Donald. one daughter predeceased in 1918. Four sisters Clara Hyler Elizabeth Engalls Dora Armagast Alice Cornell and Ann Sailors also mourn. Funeral Friday at the Methodist Church with Rev. W H Wright. interment Osceola Cemetery.
