W. J. Benson of near Silver Creek is reported to be recovering well after a major operation last Thursday performed by Dr. Kennedy of Omaha with assistance from Dr. R. L. Schroeder. Mrs. W. G. Herrmann entered Osceola Hospital for medical care and is under the care of Dr. Schroeder, with daughter Miss Leah Herrmann tending her. Sophia Walfred returned to Gresham after two and a half weeks at Osceola Hospital following surgery by Dr. Harley Eklund. Mrs. Otto Bernt and infant Marilyn Maxine have returned to Shelby.
C P Nelson and son who operate clothing shops at Stroms burg and Polk will move the Polk store to Genoa on April 1. Glenn Lindburg, manager, says the change reflects Genoa being a larger town with no clothing store, and the group has leased a building there and will move stock and fixtures. Lindburg will also manage the Genoa store, a continuation of six years at the Polk site.
Franks Adelson and Lloyd Widga celebrate 60th and 4th anniversaries at Osceola events. A Father and Son Banquet at Swede Home Church features Harlan Johnson, Carl Loft, and Elwood Kraft with guests from Osceola Stromsburg and Polk. Numerous visits and gatherings mark a busy week across the community.
The Ord congregation hosted 101 in Sunday School and 86 in worship while our church recorded 12 in Sunday School and 85 in worship for February, noting a storm that morning. Four minute speakers boosted morning talks led by P. B. Campbell next Sunday on the church in the community. Epworth League meets at 6 30 for a race problem discussion, with the evening service at 7 30.
A one day farm machinery and shop school will be held on Thursday March 7 at 9 30 a m at John G Carlson s farm southeast of Osceola. Agricultural Agent F B Kelly announced Albert Molesaar assistant extension engineer at the Nebraska College of Agriculture will conduct the school Simil ar sessions will be held in about 50 Nebraska counties Farmers may bring mowers plows binders and listers for proper adjustments Those attending will learn rope making from twine soldering and patching tin pails boilers for demonstration Coffee will be free at noon Farmers living far away may bring lunch
The Stoner Club held its annual open meeting on Friday February 22 at the Stoner school house. A crowded crowd attended as benches were built for extra seating and a program featuring songs by Stoner school children, readings by Miss McBeth, acts by Neva Hastings Grace Sharratt and a play Not a Man In The House. Jimmy Marak rode the ducking broncho and Miss America was seated by Norma Youngstrom. Lunch followed in the basement.
Local social events fill the week with showers, lunches, and visits as High Prairie hosts Mr. and Mrs. Adelson and Miss Clara Holm departs teaching duties. Dorcas Society and choir groups meet, and births and operations are reported along with moves, farewells, and family weekends in Stromsburg Central City Ong Genoa and Wahoo regions.

Shelby residents hosted and visited family friends with many events including a farewell party for Mr. and Mrs. Kirby who plan to move to Grand Island, weekend visits by Joseph Simonsen and Dr. Alton Merrick, a wedding trip return by Mr. and Mrs. Owen McClung, and social activities such as Dorcas Society hosting and a wedding dance at the Legion hall.
St Andrews residents hosted visiting relatives including Albert Bernt and Frances Zeleny while others from near Shelby Osceola and Silver Creek visited multiple homes. A sharp early real blizzard slowed traffic and slowed school and mail delivery, evidence that winter is active.
District No. 62 residents held a farewell for Mr. and Mrs. Joe Janky as they plan a March move. Measles sidelined several, with Myra Fredrickson substituting for Margaret Anderson and others ill. Social visits included Arvid Peterson hosts and Ada Lundstrom gatherings with gifts and showers.
A short playlet titled Washingtons Monument was presented before the high school audience on Friday, delivering a brief theatrical piece reflecting historical themes with local student performers.
Drawings for the Class A Regional Basketball tournament place games at York College gym March 7 8 and 9 with Sutton facing Friend Seward meeting Stromsburg and more. Admission prices vary by session with 25 cent student tickets at home schools and 35 to 50 cents at the gate. season tickets priced at 74 cents and $1.90. tickets to be mailed by February 27.
Public invite to a three act play in District 40 on Thursday evening February 28. Families are asked to bring fruit cake and their own dishes. Mrs. L. E. Treadway hosted the H. H. Club last Friday afternoon.
Don Ray Byers informs first graders about the season’s first robins and polite conduct through George Washington lessons. Second and third grades note attendance progress, a Washington Reading party, and the end of the first six weeks of the second semester. Fourth grade features Washington stories and cleanliness posters, with good silent reading scores and several named students achieving awards. Fifth grade reports corn booklets, Marilyn Brown’s birthday treat, Wayne Lesner’s trumpet, basketball practice resuming, and a Washington program reading. Department highlights include penmanship awards, perfect attendance, and a Rural School Board visit. reports due end of six weeks February 27.
Stromsburg residents hosted visitors from Omaha and Lincoln over the weekend. A snow removal crew tidied streets near the square, and a birthday reunion gathered Olson and Weber families. The People’s Caucus in the high school elected leadership and nominated candidates for city offices and council seats.
Osceola agricultural agent F. B. Kelly reports a surge of new corn hog adjustment applicants for 1935 in Polk county. Farmers and landlords expect benefits from 26 cents per bushel for spring crop land taken out of corn plus $7.50 to $11.25 per acre for retired land. Hog base payments of $15 per head on 10 percent apply even if hogs aren’t produced. Precinct elections occur in March for voters and officers.
