Heart Sunday drives Osceola thrift for Youth Fund

CANDID February 29 declared Heart Sunday in Osceola as youths from three churches canvass homes 2:00 to 5:00 p m to raise Heart Fund donations. County Clerk Frizzell notes filing deadline for public office near with elections to fill city council seats and district posts. Memorial Day, school events, and Bicentennial displays accompany local community notices.

County Conservation Practices Selected for 1976 Plan

Polk County ACP development group met February 10 to map the 1976 conservation cost sharing program. Attendees from ASCS SCS Extension Service State Forest Service NRD and local contractors discussed problems soil erosion overgrazed pastures groundwater depletion and wildlife habitat loss. Proposed cost sharing covers dams terraces feed lot runoff control waterways diversions grass seedings irrigation reuse pits and wildlife habitat development. Long term 3 to 10 year agreements will cover all needed conservation work and assure cost sharing upon completion.

Osceola Grapplers End Season In Tough State Meet

Osceola scored seven points at the State Wrestling Tournament led by Rick Johnson in the heavyweight class. Ray Johnson and Dale Runquist also competed as the Bulldogs finished 26th in Class D, with updates on match results and notes on next year's changes and NSAA medal proposals.

A long term agreement with ASCS assures cost share for conservation measures. Farmers apply by requesting to ASCS, then SCS develops a plan, NRD approves, and ASCS finalizes the agreement. Good Samaritan Family Night Session Successful

Ed Kilen of the Good Samaritan Society led a Family Night program on February 19 drawing about forty attendees. Ellen presented University of Nebraska slides on aging vision and color needs for safety and rehab. Roger Haas answered nursing home financing questions. Attendees urged quarterly meetings and suggested future topics.

Bulldogs Fall To Beavers In Season Finale

St. Edward defeated Osceola 65-57 on Friday at home as the Beavers built a 13- last quarter lead and held off a late OHS push. Reggie Mentink led rebounding with 10, John Zelasney had 17 points and eight assists, while OHS shot 39 percent and made 61 percent at the line. The junior varsity also beat St Edward reserves 51-42 to close their season.

Deadline Approaching for Public Office Filings Across Polk County

The final filing deadline is 5:00 p.m. on March 12 1976, with a 5:00 p.m. March 2 deadline for incumbents seeking new offices. Candidates for school board file with the school superintendent while City Council or Village Trustee hopefuls file with the City Clerk or County Clerk. If two or fewer file for a nonpartisan office it will not appear on the Primary ballot.
