Genoa Downs Osceola to Share Conference Title Bid
Genoa beat Osceola 63-45 to clinch a 3-1 conference record and tie Stromsburg for the lead while Osceola, 2-2 in the league, finished the season 6-12. Osceola led early but Genoa surged late in the second quarter, then pulled away as Osceola cooled, with Dan Bond's fifth foul triggering the decisive run. Rob Sterup led Osceola with 20 points and 10 rebounds. John Zelasney added 24/58 shooting in a losing effort.

Lees Realty wins city women's bowling tourney at Amity Lanes
Lees Realty captured first place with a total 2574 in the city women’s bowling tournament at Amity Lanes. Shelby duo Jean Krumbach and Arlene Heibel won doubles with 1076. Shelly Fjell led singles at 577 while Mavis Rowan claimed All Events Handicap 1636 and tied for All Events Scratch at 1473 with Mary Lou Stallings. The three repeat winners dominated the event.

Card Benefit For Cancer Saturday
The American Legion and Auxiliary of Shelby sponsor a public card party at the Legion Club Sunday evening February 22 at 7 30 p m. Sheephead bridge and pitch will be played with a one dollar donation. Proceeds go to national American Legion headquarters and later to the American Cancer Society, counted toward Polk County Cancer Unit’s crusade in April. Mrs Gary Hern bloom, president, says she will recruit Legion and Auxiliary posts countywide. The Nebraska Legion and Auxiliary, with 367 posts, launches a statewide fund drive. A kickoff tea for Polk County Crusade will be March 9 at 1 30 pm at the Osceola American Legion clubroom. Crusaders and others may attend, view a film, and hear Supervisor Daniel Bruleigh of Lincoln.

Osceola Qualifies Three For State Wrestling Tournament
Osceola scored 50 1/2 points at the District D-1 meet in Seward earning three wrestlers a state bid in Lincoln. Dale Runquist 105 pounds won and Ray Johnson 98 and Rick Johnson won runner up spots plus other Osceola competitors earned early round wins as teams vied for state berths.

New Board President Is Kuhnel
At the February District 19 Board meeting at the new high school Vernon Kuhnel was elected president for 1976 with Don Yungdahl as vice president. The board approved a driver training continuation and renewal of Dorothy Davis’s teaching certificate. They discussed enclosing the east entrance to the downtown gym and reviewed applications for high school principal and school secretary. They approved Title II cooperative reading program participation and other services including speech therapy school nurse psychologist film and media service and repair. An easement was granted to Osceola for land on Kimmel Street for street paving. The board reaffirmed its policy against transferring land to another district. Superintendent Bugbee recommended screen doors for lunch room and kitchen but the item was tabled. Osceola Education Association will negotiate terms for the 1976-1977 school year. The meeting adjourned with reconvening planned for March 8.

Refund Due From Cengas This Spring
Cengas customers in Osceola and 36 other communities served by Northern Natural Gas will receive a spring refund. It stems from a 1975 FPC order reducing Northern's rates by 1.85 cents per MCF. The refund totals $717,300 with 7 percent interest and averages about $6.50 per residential household over 12 months.
