The local Lions Club presented a program by Dr. Steen District Governor Lions International from Sargent Nebraska and Paul Knowles from Georgia. Knowles blind since birth spoke on home shop work and highway safety with Leader Dog Jane. Leader Dogs cost about 1500 and are funded by Lions Clubs.

Open House honors Shelby couple on 50th anniversary
About 250 friends and relatives attended a Sunday reception at the Shelby Methodist church for Mr. and Mrs. Sue Davis of Shelby to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married February 22 1911 in Osceola and have four children eight grandchildren. Roger D Scow was unable to attend due to Air Force duties. Both are longtime Shelby residents active in the community. Sue has run a barber shop for over fifty years and bowls weekly.

Governor Frank D. Morrison has become Honorary Easter Seal Chairman for Nebraska per Bernard J. Klasek state president of the Nebraska Society for Crippled Children. The 1960 report shows 747 crippled served via seventeen Easter Seal facilities and 21,000+ children tested for hearing in cooperation with school officials. Fundraising runs March 2 through April 2.

Funeral Services Friday for Richard E. Nelson
Richard E. Nelson, 68, longtime Stromsburg businessman, died February 14 in Hastings Nebraska. Funeral services were held at 2 30 p m Friday at the Stromsburg Baptist Church. Survived by wife Eva two daughters Mrs Ralph MacPrang Springfield Oregon and Mrs Maurice Newcomer of Gresham and one son Richard E Nelson of San Jose California. He entered the men s clothing and shoe business in Stromsburg with his father C P Nelson in 1911 and continued in Nelson's Clothing until the firm dissolved in October 1959. He also served as Stromsburg mayor and on the Board of Education.
