Servicemen Return and Depart for New Assignments
Pfc Robert Peterson left for Glenhausen Germany after a 30 day home furlough due to his father Einfted Peterson illness. Peterson served in the 12th Infantry Regiment 4th Army Division in Germany since last March. Thomas G Kerkman of Shelby volunteered for service and was sent to the Omaha induction center February 21. Staff Sergeant Keith Houder Sheldt went to Minneapolis for discharge in February after four years in the Air Force. LeMoyne Monson returned from Fort Lewis Washington with an Army honorable discharge and heads to Chicago to meet Marlin Nelson who also just discharged at Ravenswood Station. Lyle Kennedy came back from Fort Carson Colorado to Osceola for a few days before California. Don Sterup son of Victor Sterup discharged from two years in the Army at Fort Meade Maryland and returned home.

Polk County assessor Roy E Horst announced this week that assessments will begin March 1 instead of March 10. The ten day advance was legalized by the last legislature and applies to all property on hand or owned on March 1. Farmers will receive worksheets by mail and should complete them in advance and bring them to the assistant assessors. Hours are 8 a m to 5 p m daily, Saturdays 8 to 12. Emma M. Moses died February 19 at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Fullerton. Services were held February 22 at the Fullerton Methodist church. She was mother of Mrs. Ed Mangelsen of Osceola. survivors include grandchildren Victor L Mangelsen Edwin L Mangelsen and Mrs. Robert Sigler Jr and great grandchildren Richard and Diane Sigler. Community Celebrates New Methodist Church and Hospital
The Osceola area marked the opening of a new Methodist church building with a Sunday service. Rev Homer P Bollinger led as building chairman as praise and plans were shared. An Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Hospital open house attracted 200 visitors in 80 minutes. Governor Victor E Anderson will speak at the dedication banquet. Prizes for first births in the hospital include cash awards and gifts ranging from milk to a $25 bond.
