Nebraska considers merging state cash funds into general fund

A Nebraska proposal to combine 94 state cash funds into a single general fund draws fire at the statehouse. The plan, prepared by an accounting firm, would affect game, boating and park funds and potentially shrink department budgets. Mel Steen of the State Game Commission calls it harmful and warns wildlife funds must stay dedicated. Highway Dept officials also voice concerns about lumping road funds, noting possible unspent balances may not be reappropriated.
